Undroppable loot

Here is my suggestion, it is sort of a complaint but also serious in a way. I wish that the junk loot such as fish or apples that wind up littering the land were not possible to drop whether due to some in context curse or just completely out of context. It seems you cannot train the players to not loot them or having looted them dispose of them responsibly. So remove them, make them undroppable or something. Of course someone standing on 60-odd fish fighting a gladiator repeatedly and not responding to a question just might be a botter but at this hour it could be someone with no English too.

I'd like to see some waste baskets. And the last two things or so that are thrown in stay there till something else is thrown on top of them or somebody takes them out. New chars could then make money by selling other people's waste, such as things that are only bought by few merchants far away and don't bring much money  >o)

Right now most of the trash littering the ground is worth at least 1 tria to some npc. Apples are worth 1 to a cook, fish is I think 2, even slag is worth 1 tria to an npc who deals in raw materials. A new character can make money by just being a scavenger as it is, most do not bother as it does not generate experience. Perhaps that would be a more appropriate way to deal with the problem, make an entrepreneur skill which gets experience from selling scavenged items.

How about this: When you try to drop 'waste' items in anywhere 'except the tavern' (for meal purposes, on tables) its considered 'bad karma' so your character wouldn't do it in fear of this superstition?

Hows that? :D

I believe settings dictate littering is punishable by death if I'm not mistaken.

I could be wrong but I think it is only polluting a lake that is punishable by death.

*goes to look it up*

"XXXVI. The world we live in is small and largely self contained; pollution, therefore. is a grievous crime against our neighbors. Any person or group caught improperly disposing of waste materials shall be guilty of a high crime and subject to the true death."

Seems that it is all polluting, though I'm not sure a person dropping a fish should be seized by the guards and given the "true death." :P

That law sounds like it is a crime to empty your chamberpot in the street. Seeing as the guards are incapable of doing anything about this at the moment what is the suggested recourse? It is unlikely that all people will conform to the intent.

Well, perhaps we could look at a way to make things "decompose" that would help littering.  Naturally and food would be either decomposed or scavenged by another creature.  Or perhaps some metal ore would gradually fall apart from wear.  I am saying that could we not make it that when dropped items gradually degrade in quality until they hit -1? (-1 since there are so many quality 1 items that they would decay insanely fast if they only had to go to 0.)  That way items such as food decay quickly, and items that are more valuable, such as high quality swords, tend to last longer.  I also like the waste basket idea, I thought about suggesting it but it would seem complicated on how exactly it would be in the settings.
