Thread Locking
« on: November 27, 2007, 10:00:37 am »
I know I have not posted much, but I have been around for awhile now reading, but I see a new trend here. Locking threads. It seems to be on an upsweep and I am not sure why. It appears to be based on individual opinion and as this is a forum that just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe this is my problem, I just wanted to speak out. I have never believed in being afraid to speak my mind, politely of course. If I have missed the bigger picture I apologize.

This thread was not meant to flame, just to ask why the new trend, although I am sure I will still get blasted for speaking out of turn.

Thanks

give me a locked thread, and i can give you an answer (by pointing you to the rules that dictate it should be locked).

Maybe it would be better if the moderators could explain why they locked a certain thread instead of being immature and typing "post count +1." An explanation would be a lot better than spam. I know that several people will and already agree with me. Not meant for anyone specifically, though....

I believe that the mods started getting tougher with the community (about a year ago) in regards to thread topics because of the certain topics that kept getting revived. Due to this it would be the same old points and flames from players. On top of that the mods would have to deal with not one thread but several of the same topic. The mods got tired of this behavior hence the thread locking. After all these threads do reflect the community.

I think the mods are being quite patient even if there are those of you who seem to think otherwise. I mean we all want our voices heard right? People tend to post without adding anything to the thread that is helpful or an idea on how to fix/contribute new solutions (This was and is what the PS forums are for after all). It is usually just our own opinions that land up in the threads and that is not what the Dev/Mods are looking for. The mods continue to let us post our thoughts anyway. I think maybe we should start being grateful for that and not get upset when a thread is locked and clearly isn't something that helps planeshift.
I've been outside, it's overrated and the graphics suck!

This is a privately owned forum, have no illusions that you have a right to be heard. Being heard is a priviledge given by the Administrator and moderators :P

Now seriously, there are a load of members on this forum and only one fulltime moderator: Neko. (unless I missed someone?) Do you have any idea how much work it is to moderate a forum this big on your own? There are rules stating why threads can be locked: duplicate threads, flaming, spamming, ...

There is also a rule somewhere stating that, when you have issues with the actions of a Moderator or GM, you contact that person or their superiors in private. You shouldn't use the public forums here to win sympathy votes and make the people in control look bad. It's not fair to them, being in charge always means people with authority issues dislike you and your position. It also means they have a job to do, which isn't always easy.

I haven't known a case where a moderator wouldn't explain their actions to me in a calm manner when I asked for them in private.
