[Guild] Dakkru's Will

Dakkru's Will

Not long after I completed my writings on the nature of death and dying, a brooding sense of unease came over me. I tried to rest to relieve this tension but it was for nothing. The tension became more and more palpable with each passing moment. I became troubled by an ache in my head that grew so intense that it made me desire to cut it off. This persisted first for an hour, then six, then two days! On the second day, the books of my library began to fall from the shelves, and as I touched them the shadows began to move. They danced and flickered wickedly. A dangerously strong wind began to rise and the pages of books flipped in the heavy gust. The wind gained force and I remembered:

 ‘The Eclipse!’

From the vortex stepped the most frighteningly beautiful being these old eyes have ever seen. Even blinded by pain as I was, Her image cut through. A form lithe and strong, with a shimmering cloak of long, sharp-edged splinters of ruby, emerald, diamond, platinum and silver, all strung together with impossibly fine strands of orichalc and rattling in a soft cacophonic hymn. A glorious headdress of crystal shards crowned such perfection as all the world of the living could hope for in death. Her lustrous skin was the whitish blue of the drowned, but in no way besmirched. Her eyes, irises like green halos encircled unfathomable pupils.

Her voice was whispered, child-like, yet it shook the room with Her power.

“I am Dakkru.”

Testimony of Londris Kolaim

-----------------------------------------

The Will of Dakkru is a religious group devoted to the Goddess of the Death Realm. It is not a religion for the faint of heart or the weak spirited, since Dakkru is mostly praised through taking the lives of others, or giving your own. All who have made it their profession to kill: executioners, soldiers, warriors, murderers, assassins; and those who wield the fearsome power of death: tyrants, oppressors, Necromancers, Dark Way mages; should pay homage to Dakkru.

She reigns over the Realm of the Dead with her followers, led by Londris, Rulayne and Oriven. From that dark realm, she controls the Black Crystal shards and sends out her faithful to bring more souls under her wings. Those who find themselves ending up in her realm would be wise to respect the Lady Death and her ilk, lest their God keeps them safe even there. Atheists and follower of the mysterious Black Flame shouldn't count on any sympathy from the faithful of Dakkru, not in the world of the living and definitely not in the Death Realm.

Goals

  • Spreading the religion: The main purpose of Dakkru's Will is to spread the Goddess' word and gather her followers. Both in the realm of the Living and the Death Realm itself.
  • Purging the godless: By Dakkru's will, her followers will show no quarter to Atheists and Black Flame cultists. These people will be brought down to the Death Realm, facing Her judgement. Those who worship other, weaker Gods may stand a small chance to pass under her sight, without drawing attention to themselves.
  • Cultivating the Black Crystals: As the Antagonist of the Azure Sun, the Black Crystal resides in the Death Realm. It is fragmented now and it's shards spread throughout the realm, some tainted by unknown sources. Dakkru reclaimed the shards as her own and we, her faithful, will protect and cultivate these shards for her.
  • Building a Grand Arena: It is the Will of the Goddess that her followers erect a place to worship and honor Dakkru. Unlike other religions this will not become a temple but a grand Arena devoted to Her reign: Death. We gather the resources and manpower needed to complete this task.
  • Feeding the Death Realm: Our home is found in the Realm of the Dead, where Dakkru rules supreme. The Goddess', and with it our own, power grows with every soul that joins her kingdom. She counts on her followers to maintain a constant flow of death out of the land of the living, sending souls into her cold embrace.

Ranks

"Join our ranks before Death's icy talons pierce your heart ... for they always will." -- The Black Augur.

  • Acolyte: Those new to the religion will make up this rank until they prove their dedication and knowledge.
  • Sanguine: After you have proven your worth and undergone the necessary rituals, from which there is no turning back, you will become Sanguine. These faithful, bonded by blood, further prove their dedication and chose a path which will bring them closer to the Goddess Dakkru.
  • Bloodbringer: Followers of Dakkru who are renown for their skills in physical combat and killing. Be they gladiators, soldiers, cutthroats or assassins.
  • Painbringer: These are the worshippers of the Goddess of Death that excel in bringing death and chaos through magic. Mostly Dark and Red Way mages as well as practitioners of the illegal art known as Necromancy.
  • Deathbringer: Deathbringers are elected from the lower 'Bringers', because of their excellence in spreading death and chaos among the heretics. These 'Bringers' have proven to be invaluable and a potent tool for the Goddess, throughout their years of service. They are the elite of the faithful and purge the godless.
  • Tomekeeper: The Tomekeepers are the equivalent of priests, working under Londris Kolaim. These faithful oversee rituals, store knowledge and spread the word of Dakkru. They usually reside in the Death Realm for the majority of their time, which can be very, very long.
  • Crystal Warden: Crystal Wardens are skilled in the arts of magic, whose task is to protect, study and draw power from the Black Crystal shard spread throughout the Realm of the Dead. They follow Oriven Thamal's lead, aside from Dakkru's herself.
  • Harbinger: Harbingers are a chosen few in charge of spreading the Will of Dakkru in the realm of the living. They control the 'Bringer' Forces and seek out potential additions among the living or the dead, with Rulayne Ogrin's guidance.
  • Black Augur: A Title that goes to the leader of the Will, in which Tomekeepers, Crystal Wardens and Harbingers reside as his advisors. The Black Augur is rumored to have powers, surpassed only by those of Dakkru herself.

OOC

We are a new roleplaying guild, based on the new religion of Dakkru. Please do not apply if you are not interested in roleplaying a balanced character and following the settings.  At the moment we are looking for more members so that the guild can be created in-game. We also look for someone skilled enough and interested in leading 'Dakkru's Will'.

If you have questions about whether or not your character is suited for this religion, use the list of advantages and disadvantages of our guild below and ask yourself if your character can live with them. By the way, the disadvantages are not something you’ll be able to ignore at your leisure. We definitely encourage those among us who are not so lawful but be fair and suffer the consequences of your deeds. That being said it is perfectly possible to worship Dakkru and stick to the law as well.

Benefits
- Killing others and dueling is something you have no issues with and possibly even enjoy. (within reasonable limits of course, it's still a game after all)
- The Death Realm is your home, therefore dying shouldn't be feared much.
- You enjoy access to the Black Crystals and arcane knowledge, for Red, Dark Way mages and necromancers.

Disadvantages
- You will possibly be disliked and distrusted by most people.
- Guards can arrest you on sight and will definitely give you a hard time if you choose the criminal path.
- You are possibly restricted to less populated areas, as you build a reputation for yourself.
- The Death Realm may become a permanent home for older members.
- You are likely to get your ass kicked many times over.

I'm no great admirer of short posts... But I just have to say that this is the well-made, simple-yet-elegant type of guild I would expect from two such upstanding members of the community. Good job, and good luck!

Sounds like finally your guild will provide occasions to rp in DR, and make it more than a transitory, but a "living" place! Grand!
Truely hope you will succeed with it, good luck!

First of all thanks for all the positive comments.

Rinenud, as for your question ... well I'm not settings so I have no idea why they don't like the Black Flame, I just know they don't from the Character creation menu. My character's take on it would be that the Black Flame is a cult, not a religion. The Black Flame avatar is not a true god according to Grayne so worshipping the Black Flame is just as bad as being an atheist. Whether that's the truth or not ... I can't say. Another option could be that they see them as direct competition.
* Zan looks towards Xillix with puppy eyes, awaiting an answer as well.

Thanks for digging out the gramatical error, English isn't my native language so I'll correct it right away.

Looking good. I look forward to having Parallo brutally murdered :P

In seriousness though, it looks great, as expected. There aren't enough guilds that fill out the settings like this.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

Which makes it all the more surprising that Zan and Duraza are doing it :P

But, seriously, good on both of you.  You're making me want to create another character...

Now if only the BlackFlame wasn't much, much better than Dakkru :P

Again, I'm impressed.

The guild is very well made and the presentation of this post is superb. The only thing that annoys me is the part where it bases itself on little bits of the setting that I deeply loathe: the need for evil incarnate and the freshness of the Death Realm. But that's just me.

Still, I'd join the guild. Seems the best effort at this I've seen up until now, I wish you luck.
Disclaimer: This is my opinion and I can be reasoned with. I'm probably right, though.

First I'd like to say Yay! All the positive comments make me feel special  :P

There's one question that has been puzzling me, and about which I hope to hear your thoughts: why do the followers of Dakkru wish to persecute the followers of the Black Flame? The only information I have discovered on the Black Flame is its penchant for "strange homicidal rituals", and since Dakkru takes a portion of every soul that passes into the Realm Of the Dead, would these rituals not be strengthening Dakkru? It seems strange for Dakkru's followers to devote such attention to the cult.

When it comes to the whole Dakkru hunting down those who follow the Black Flame I can't exactly claim I know the reason but my guess would be the ame as Zan's. The Black Flame does not worship a true god. When reading the book by Londris about Dakkru in DR she says the god's will no longer take pity for the "godless." I would suspect that she is not only refering to athiest but also to those who follow the Black Flame because they worship a false deity. That would be my best guess.

An in game book will resolve this soon as we can possibly do so.  :innocent: Zan, Duraza, the Blackflame is a deity of sorts. Everyone should take the hint the Blackflame is insinuative shadowed and does not have your best interests at heart. It is also illegal to openly speak of it in the world of the living. I wish I could give you all more right now, but even I like to have something to surprise with.

For the sake of good RP I will say this: Dakkru personally has reason to despise the Blackflame.

We will try to circle the wagons with the gm team to make some things clearer for you.

for sangwa, personally I would not call Dakkru evil, but then most humans of a contemporary rl mindset would call me evil. ;)

Ps is outside of such common problems of evil.

(btw you might choose to look for typos in the initial post of this thread ;) )

I'll step in with a few hints.

Dakkru is not evil, and does not stand for evil (from her point of view). Death is part of the natural order of things... the end part, actually. Any death belongs to her, though she prefers the worthy True Deaths of her strongest worshippers (though never in suicide). To die, or to kill in her name is to worship her. This does not mean she supports random slaugter. Every death has to have some meaning. Those who kill in false worship to Dakkru will find no pitty from her.

Blackflame is evil, and stands for [censored]. This goes against even Dakkru.

One final thing to note is that not all followers of Dakkru are feared and avoided. There are many professions that involve killing or death that are not against the laws but would still worship Dakkru, such as Gladiators, soldiers, and even surgeons and healers who would offer those they could not save to Dakkru.

I think thats the perfect bit of information we needed to clear that up, thanks

Thats also some info to definately take into account. Makes me wonder so much more about the Blackflame than I did before.

Thanks for the clarifications, Xillix and UtM. I made some changes in nuance in the initial text ... oh and if someone wants to proofread it for spelling mistakes, be my guest! I probably don't see them.
