3 days, a million problem... Why?
« on: November 30, 2007, 11:49:54 pm »
Hello... Im sad to write this, but i think, this is the best I can do... :(

I played from Hungary, connected to the internet via router. The tutorial ran so good, i tought: "Yay! At least a game, which is new and not for just slashing and such." Roleplay and crafting and exploring a whole new world, and  its for free... Then came the problems: at he end of the tutorial, when its tried to get me in the big game, it crashed. Sad, but can solve. And it was solved. After that... I get into the game, yay! But its slow... And crashing! :( Restart, get everything on minimum. Slow. Use all the advices (thanks again), get hings on work. No, its still crashing! :'( Read all the forums, do what they write, and then... No changes. Crash after 2 minutes...

I had enough now. A PC, where UT2004 runs on high online without problems, when a lot of explosions and people on screen, can not run Planeshift? Why? I can not understand... The tutorial runs good, my connection is good, my computer meets with almost all recommend requirements... What is wrong here? I give it up for now. It was good till it last. :'(

If someone can help me, please, post a reply or something... And sorry for the tone of the post.

What OS are you using?

Have you tried to uninstall, make sure nothing is left behind in the folder, and reinstall?

This game is in developement, so many items (mainly all of the artsy things) and the engine itself to an extent, aren't all that great for system optimization at this time.  UT2k4 is a fully finished game, and its artsy stuff and engine are have been fined tuned to make it run fast and great.  PS just isn't at that stage of developement yet.

Many people are having trouble with the grass effects.  Have you tried downloading the maps that have had the grass removed and see if that speeds up performance?  You can find the link straight off the home page for the game.  planeshift.it

http://www.planeshift.it/ To get the grass-less maps Neko mentioned, just look for the link in the most recent announcement. :) Assuming you haven't tried this already.

Edit:
Even better, a direct link to the download! :)

XP is on the computer... Thanks the link, I downloaded that, but it still crashing.

My problem is that in fact: why is that, that the game is good in some place (tutorial, smaller ground etc.), and then suddenly dang! Freezes. :'( Im just a girl, i can not understand why is that...

Sorry for complaining ut and PS, they are really different (Planeshift is better in some way - that was I find first :) ), I was just too sad to think clearly.

Edit: I reinstalled the game, but it still in that... Ill try it again later...

could be many reasons.  What is your systems specs?  how much RAM do you have?  What is your video card?  Are it's drivers up to date?

It could be that small locations it runs fine becuase in small locations there isn't as much to load.  Higher the load, more higher the specs needed.

Although if you run UT2k4 fine, I think it could be drivers related rather than hardware since my computer runs PS at home and it isn't able to do UT2k4 on max settings as you said yours can.

I should point out that the system requrements for UT2004 are very low compared to todays games;

Pentium III or AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz processor (Pentium® or AMD 1.2GHz or greater recommended)
128MB RAM (256MB RAM or greater recommended)
5.5GB HDD space REQUIRED
8X CD-ROM or DVD
Windows® compatible sound card
32 MB video card required (64 MB NVIDIA or ATI hardware T&L card recommended)

A system that meets the minimum requirements for UT2004 has nowhere near the grunt required for PS, not enough ram, not the required shaders on the vidcard, so to really give a proper opinion we do, as already said, require the exact system requirements. At the moment it could either be system memory, you have enough to load the tutorial but not enough for a full map, or Vid Card shaders, not all the effects, rain, fog, grass etc, appear in the tutorial so running the tutorial is no real test of compatibility.
