The life of Simon Torbelle
« on: March 21, 2003, 06:32:40 am »
Welcome all to the story of my life...

My name as many remember it is Simon Torbelle, properly Simonvelor Armatsu Torbelle.  Darn those fancy folk of the woods, my mother be one of them.  My father on the other hand was a sensible man of the city.  Never worked an honest day in his life, but worked his fair share of unhonest ones.  Tought me everything i know, well everything usefull that is.  My mother did try to teach me a bit of that magik stuff, but to this day i\'ve found no use for it, save entertaining small chidren.  Ah, but i wander.

I was born among a group of traveling folk, we would go from city to city putting on a show the likes of which have not been seen this side of the plane since.  My father always saw to it that we left each city with more than our ticket taking though.  I learned from a young age my fathers craft.  When I had seen the seasons change six times it had become my duity to find loose purse strings, and take said purses for repair, and a little weight adjustment.  As I got older I learned the way of the rope.  Not a man I\'ve met can walk a rope like I.  It was a nice change to be the distraction for a while, but I soon hungered for more involvement in the family business.

I belive the seasons had passed sixteen times when my father finally saw my hunger.  He took me out of the show that evening. and told me this.

\"I have hidden in this audiance my favorite sword,\" he began, \"find it and it is your.  Then your real training will begin.\"

A chalenge like this was exactly what I was waiting for.  I had until the show ended to find this sword, and the show was packed.  I started looking at once.  Being careful not to be seen I began checking all the swords i found,  I passed over many that seemed too plain.  I found one that I though might fit, and I brought it to my father.  Looking at my find he said simply

\"Thats a nice one, but it\'s not mine.  Now go and replace it before it\'s missed\"

So I did as my father asked.  And then I found another.  This one I also brought to him, and again he sent me back.  This occured many times, I even began to bring him swords I had passed over, then sword like weapon, blunt weapons, and anything else I could think of a way to attack with.  Finnaly I brought to him a walking staff, that seemed to me a simple piece of wood.  But to my suprise my father smiled at me, and without a word pulled from within the staff a hidden blade.  He then gave the sword to me, and to this day I remeber it\'s lesson well.  Not all in this world is as it seems.

Ahh there is much more to tell, but my eyes grow weary.  Perhaps I\'ll tell you more another time.

Most ppl will soon learn that I hate to reply first to my own post, but I though that I should say this.

If ppl like this I will continue.
In order to know if ppl like it I need replies.
If and this is a poll  :D  it seems that a new section would be lost in the replies i will do each section as a new thread.

a sunny day nearly was over and acron just enjoyed his being free of any burden. his last contract gave him some good money, and after having made a short visit at an old friend of him gained some fire and ice enchantments for his two blades and long nights of talk. he just steered back to the capital to find some work on foot because being free of any contract means enjoying the land and from time to time practicing his archery on some rabbit or whatever crosses his way.
and now this little town with this warmly looking inn came right to his taste and he placed himself in a dark corner snuggled into his coalk and ordered 3 ale\'s for not needing to get up again... he darned his pipe, lightend it, and just waited for the things to come...
don\'t argue with fools, first they pull u down to their level, then they beat u with experience.

You are here,
You will always be here,
You will never be there.
Although you may strive to get there,
upon reaching there you will realize you are really here.
And there is everywhere else.

Ah travelers,

I find you once again in this peaceful tavern.  When we last parted I belive I told you how I got my sword, but I belive a failed to explain why is is so special.

The sword you see, in its make, is designed to be completely disguised as a staff.  It is rather useful when you want to get a weapon into a place where weapons would otherwise be shunned.  That is not however the only reason why I likes it.

When I had the sword no more than a week, my mother sent me to collect a sample from a rather large beast that roamed the hills.  To be specific she needed some of its snot for a spell or something, but that doesn\'t matter now.  What matters is that being the good son that I was, I went into the hills and looked for this beast.  It wasn\'t too hard to find, or too hard to make sneeze (a story I save for another time), but what my mother failed to tell me is that the fluids of this thing are damaging to metals.  Needless to say this almost ruined my new sword.

I took the sample and my sword to my mother, and as a thankyou she agreed to mend my sword.  Now this was an interesting process, most of wich I don\'t know about but can guess.  Throughout the next month she kept the sword in her wagon, and admited no save a few of the younger men.  When they were there you could hear strange and magical noises at quite a pace.  Anyway, after the month my sword was returned, and to this day I havent even been able to scratch its surface.

This is very nice but not its only power.  Once while we were in a very wealthy trade city, I decided to check out a few of the local home.  As luck would have it the first house I visited belonged to one of those magik folk, and he didn\'t like me polking through his stuff.  Well to teach me a lesson he animated my staff, and began to beat me over the head with it.  It didn\'t take me long to learn my lesson, so I darted out of that house and into the house of another magik folk.  Well this one decided to bring the wood back to life.  Branches began to grow forth from the staff and bind my arms.  I ran out of there and all the way out of the city into the forest.  There I discovered that the two magiks had had lasting effects on the staff itself.  To this day when not bound by the sword, the staff floats around with a mind of its own.  I\'ve convinced it over the years, that since I have the sword, that it should protect me at all costs, and it has on numerous occasions saved my hide.  It can if it wants, block almost any attack, save those of the tiny winged people. But lets not talk further of them.

Alas I grow tired once more... till the next time.

Simon, I like your writing style. It\'s very... uh, sophisticated first-person narrativy.

You will always be here,
You will never be there.

upon reaching there you will realize you are really here.
