Auction, everything must go
« on: December 09, 2007, 10:46:32 pm »
I'm looking to get a weekly community auction going.  I am tired of trying to sell things in the auction tab and not knowing if it even gets noticed.  I figure doing it as an event will yield the most amount of buyers and sellers in the same area.  So if you are looking for a cool rare weapon or glyph, or you are looking to get rid of some clutter for cash, come on down.  Only perfect crafted weapons[300q] will go in the official auction, but when that is over feel free to sell at will.

First auction will be on Sunday, December 23rd, time is TBA based on responses to this thread, and we can hold it in front of the magic shop.  My name, in-game, is Ralib.

Will Levrus approve?
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Of course your auctions are being noticed. How can you ignore the flashing tab? I know I can't. Maybe people just aren't interested in what you are selling? Or maybe you are selling things for to much? I am pretty sure though that your auctions do not go unnoticed.

I wish you luck with your action at the magic shop but I will tell you right now it is going to be a heck of alot of work if there are many there. It takes someone with good organizational skills to pull something like this off. I know this because awhile ago we had an auction with Proglin and Bod. As I can recall that brought up alot of issues. Auctions in general seem to bring up issues. I would suggest maybe doing some research. Here's a few links I found when I searched for auctions on the forums.

In game, you can go to options and turn off flashing for the auction tab. I did, and it doesn't bother me any more. Maybe a few other people did it.

Some may turn off the auction tab, it certainly is possible (I knew about the option to turn it off). If they are anything like myself though I know I don't like to miss out on stuff. This is why I don't shut it off. I like to keep an eye on the PlaneShift economy.

I'm gonna have to go with the Zorbster on this one... The project seems a little half-baked. Of course, it may be just that we were provided with less information than there is, but if so then that's half-baked. :P

Not that I consider Levrus' shop the best location, the idea of having other spots in town more crowded constantly sounds quite fancy to me. I always enjoyed auctions set up eventlike, like the Hammer's ones, or Donari's.
After all entire business going on around the smithie only doesnt appear making perfect sense to me.

So yep, half-baked may be the right consideration of it, but I like the approach in general. It could create more places to be "interesting", other than Harns and Kadas.

Why not the plaza? The auctioneer could set himself at the top of those stairs, or on top of one of those... what are they called? The things that separate the stairs.

The reason for having an Auction-tab is to have Main-tab free of business stuff, so having an ingame-auction located a bit off public action wouldnt hurt, I think.
Plaza may be fine, but I would suggest to settle it .. maybe the other side of the smithie, between the temple and East-passage or so. Also, opposite of the stairs leading up to Kadas, at that small fountain, there is space, why not using one of these areas usually free of any ongoings?
Such could give the town a bit more life off the two main spots.

Hm, if I were an auctioneer, I'd place it in a busy spot. Down an allyway or next to a smelly plumbing system isn't going to work out too well. You want a place where people can see you and join in.

Edit:

What is up with my grammar??!!

Actually it would be nice if people started doing these sorts of things outside of town and more towards the roads leaving Ojaveda (Akkaio) or Hydlaa. It would be different for one, and it would make good use of the world that is left untouched most of the time. Also people forget stuff when they leave town and might need what you are auctioning off. Or they may just want to trade in what they looted in the wilds and not have to go all the way to town. Meh .... just a thought.

There are some empty houses up in Ojaveda, or at least from the last time I looked. They might be guild houses now. Ojaveda is too far away to hold an auction anyways. I think this is a decent idea, but I doubt many will go. I have no money to buy a sword  :sweatdrop:
Have you told a Daylo 'I hate you' yet today? Do it. You'll get teleported to another area!

I got the magic shop idea from a guildmate, only because of crashes when big events happen inside of the city.  I'm hoping to make this at a time to get the most buyers and sellers in the same spot.  I also hope to do this in a normal auction setting, and to do this weekly or bi-weekly.  I also don't want to interfere, too much, with day to day business.  Once I am able to get more concrete plans down, I will advertise in-game.

Actually, the feeling that he seems to be going for is that of an upper-class, rather expensive auction. In that case it would be unrealistic to have it in the plaza, since those things are usually done by advertising and holding them in some sort of out-of-the-way area. In that sense I think he has it together... It seems a little unrealistic for people to just monopolize a city's central square for an auction out of the blue.
