Roaming Kikiri
« on: December 10, 2007, 09:46:02 am »
( This has been discussed before, although this post is a bit more specific and if my searches are correct the old posts are nearly 3 years old. I thought that the issue needs to be readdressed. This post is also specific to a certain animal in a certain place. Please don't hang me! )

I like Kikiri. Though they may be slightly physically unoriginal, they do give a bit of atmosphere. But not as much as they should.

To make the Kikiri a bit more lively and interactive, would it be possible to put them on waypoints. We've all seen that waypoints are possible, Harnquist still hasn't recovered fully from the hangovers. I think it would make the place look and feel a bit more alive and active if a few stray wandering round, stopping now and them to drink from the fountains, or eat on the fields. Not too many, we obviously don't want infestations but enough to just give the place a bit of realism and atmosphere, like birds waddling around in the big cities of RL.

I'm unsure how easy this would be and I'm aware that there can be the problem with the NPC falling off the world, but it's been done before so theoretically it can be done again.

We tried this when they first came out, but they ended up falling off the world very quickly. But rest assured, we're working on making those NPCs move once again.

I'd also like Kikiri to be huntable. Just for realism's sake, they shouldn't yield any experience, only drop some meat or feathers perhaps which are worth near nothing.

I've just walked past them too often while I was so hungry I'd even attack a grendol for their meat. :P

Gunny how we hunt rats but the staple of our diet is impervious.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

People don't take to kindly to randomly killing chickens on the street, I dunno if it would be alright to randomly kill a kikiri who is just walking around. It should be possible mind you, but I don't think it would be the best thing to do.

Unless you were a butcher or a cook, and maybe they were in a pen, away from the busy plaza.

I hope they will move around, but not to be killed. They are so cute!

I believe I once saw someone interacting with a Kakiri.  Oddly it responded to him in reasonable ways.  If I remember he offered it some seeds, it pecked at them, and it even got scared and run away from him when I approached.

Personally, I'd like them to behave like the Cuckoos from Legend of Zelda.

Did you get the number on that one-eyed rat?

Good point, the owner might get pretty angry if you do ... but on the other hand if they're wild animals and they keep breeding they might become a plague and would need to be contained. :D

As a gratuitous and fowl suggestion, maybe we could get a "pick up kikiri and twist its head off" animation added at some point? Just like my grandma used to do... sigh.

Wandering good. But how would you react if a guy came up from behind you and shot a pigeon dead in the high street?  ;)
Maybe you should be able to hunt the Kiriki that wander around on the roads.

But thanks for the coments. I eagerly await the moving NPCs.
