Questions about armour, weapons, creatures, items and repairing
« on: December 13, 2007, 11:36:42 am »
Apologies if I'm posting something that has been asked many times before, but I have searched to no avail....

1. Is there a list somewhere of creatures with their hit points, one of weapons and their damage potential, one of armour and its dmg absorption?  I have found the list of creatures on the wiki but there's no actual stats.  Or does this fall under the 'may not be revealed out of game' rules?

2. How does weapon damage work?  As my skill goes up, will I see the damage stats on the weapon description increase, until they reach the max for that weapon, or does higher skill mean more hits near the top end of the damage range for the weapon?  What is the range of damage for a weapon? 0 - max?  50% - max

3. How does armour work?  Is it a case of: each hit lands on a certain body part.  If you have armour there it will always absorb x many points of dmg from the blow, and whatever's left comes off your HP?  Is there a min level that always gets through?

4. I've read about the 'creature impervious to attack' message when the npc server is down.  however, I often seem to get cases where I attack and every hit misses, and every hit by the creature misses me.  Relog does not cure it.  Is this the same problem?  ie npc server down

5. I sometimes see things on the ground - gold ingots, pies, etc etc.  Are these items that spawn randomly, so if I see it, lucky me, and I can pick it up, or are they items left by other players for newbies to pick up, or is it actually seen as bad form to pick up things like that because they belong to someone and you are stealing if you take them?  What are the rules about what you can take?  Is there a theft crime in game that you get punished for?

6. All the bird things roaming around in one of the towns - not sure if I'm allowed to say the name in the forum - is it permitted to kill them?  This kind of relates to question 5 - how can you tell if a creature is actually owned by someone (ie domesticated) and hence killing it would be a crime?  Or don't we have domesticated animals?

7. Sorry last question - I'm not sure how vague I need to make this question, and if it's even permitted to answer it.  Is there an explanation somewhere of repairing weapons and armour, if such a thing is possible, and how much it costs - can it be done by others, or only by yourself, and whether it's cheaper to repair or replace items.

Sorry for all the questions, and hope someone can help me out.

Thanks

Zan

1. Short answer: No. Long answer: Planeshift tries to be unique and more realistic by minimizing the amount of numbers us players have access to. In real life we can't just put values on someone's strength or intelligence either. Secondly as far as creatures go, even the same species has a substantial variation in strength and skill so you won't find a list of much use. You can always examine every player, NPC or item to get a written description that will tell you some details. Also using common sense will tell you a lot ... and lastly there is a specific magic spell that does allow you to see the attributes of players or NPCs.

2. The stats on your weapon stay the same, heck those slash damages are actually an old concept that is losing it's function. For example, handcrafted weapons deal damage based on quality, not slash. Skills will increase your damage and your ability to hit, despite of armor values. Your weapon stats won't change however. I suggest you just pick a weapon and try it out .. once you get past being an absolutely unskilled character you will have plenty of tria to experiment with different weapons.

3. Armor works more or less like you described, there are three types, each with more defensive properties. It will absorb damage and can also completely absorb all damage. So no, there is no percentage that4. always gets through. I do hear rumours about certain types of armor becoming more or less effective against certain types of weapons though.

4. There used to be a bug where that happened to me but I haven't experienced it lately. Unless you have a very high armor skill and a very low weapon skill .. then it's perfectly possible that you can avoid all incoming attacks but can't land a successful blow in return. Also keep in mind that using full defense will only focus your character on defending, you will almost never do any damage in that stance but you can defend better.

5. Only a few items spawn randomly and those are apples and mushrooms. Everything else is dropped there by other players. Planeshift doesn't have a way to destroy items, except toss them into the forge and turn them into dust ... so usually players just drop their 'filth' somewhere. If you can pick them up, pick them up ... If they belong to someone who is standing nearby, they will be guarded and you can't pick them up. So far there is no In-game ability to steal or a punishment therefor but these things can be roleplayed.

6. Kikiri can't be attacked right now. I don't find it realistic but it's the way things are. We do have domesticated animals and even pets, even though they're bugged at the moment, but it's impossible to attack them last I checked. So again you can roleplay to commit a crime but are unable to actually do it in the game. The law says that you can't kill domesticated or semi-intelligent races (like gobbles) though. The game mechanics don't punish for it yet.

7. That is the sort of thing we can't talk about in this forum. I'd say, ask around in game, find a skilled repairman and ask if they teach you the craft. Or ask for someone to repair your goods for you, most will but of course it requires you trusting them enough to give them your items.
