What has changed?
« on: December 13, 2007, 02:31:31 pm »
What has changed here in the forums? What has changed in the game? Why all the tension and nasty comments? The game used to be fun. Role play was just that play. It should not make people nervous to play this game, it should be something that we should do together and enjoy. It makes me sad to get a PM that I am a pansy and should stand up for myself. It makes me sad to think someone wants to get my email address to say something to me because he/she does not like something I have done or said here in the forums. It makes me sad that so many people use this ‘ignore list’ in game so they do not have to talk to people they dislike. It makes me sad to think someone once told me that I would never know if I was talking to him in game because he has so many alts that he plays but he was watching me nonetheless. Where has the ‘family’ atmosphere gone? Why are all the old ‘good’ players leaving? I do not think that we are giving the new people a chance to be part of the ‘family.’ This affects everything, IRC, the PS forum and the game. I say we should stop wishing for something that is gone and make this game a 'great experience’ for everybody. Take a moment and think before you speak and make sure what you have to say will not hurt anyone nor have bad consequences. Come on people; let us get back to what this is all about. Let us make this ‘family’, ‘community’ or whatever you wish to call it come back and be fun.
Life is lived forwards, but understood backwards.

I don't think a lot has changed.

A good number of rpers are now gms or devs.

I like the forums much better these days.

only because of all the noobs you get fed ;)

idk Leama, maybe the honeymoon is over and the marriage is just starting...We complain because we are a family...I don't know what family doesn't complain about each other. Besides beating up on other 'siblings' is fun....it creates character so to speak.

And enough with really bad analogies. I shouldn't be one to talk...i haven't been around long enough =)

I am saying get rid of the bleak defeatist streak!

We have just begun!

It is true universally the people just like saying "remember when?"

I spent four years at a great college and every year since my first people would say, "oh this used to be so much cooler."  bla bla bla.

just like Skywalker going into the dark cave, he asks Yoda something like "what is in there?" Yoda replies, "Only what you bring with you." I think we can invert that sentiment and say that people need to bring a positive outlook into the game with them.

I've been around here for a couple or three years and to be honest very little has changed, we've had some trolls come and go the forum RP has died out as the server stays up longer but all in all not much has changed

I agree, everythings pretty much the same to me. I can't say I've been here long but in my one year of playing plus some change I'd have to say this is just apart of ps life. When I first started playing the people I rped with would always talk about good old times with other rpers that I never met. Now a days I talk about the good old days with rpers I used to know who have left. I'm sure (well I hope) that eventually if I leave that people will talk about the good old days rping with me. Eventually I'm sure even you will have your set of "the good old days."

As for the rest its always been here as well. If everything seems bad just hang in there, I'm sure you'll find yourself enjoying some good times again after a bit  ;)

* Under the moon is still waiting for 'the good old days'.

It is all a perspective thing. So far, I have not come to a time yet where I will look back and think "Gee... I wish it was more like that again."

Yes, there are people gone that I will miss. And in the future I will meet more people that once again leave, and I will miss them as well.

I don't see the forum as unfriendly and cold. I don't see them as much different than three years ago when I first came. It is a forum, not a familly. You can have friends and good fellows here, but to try to see it as a family and you will always be disappointed in the end.

The good 'old' players have always been leaving. The good 'new' players are always coming in. That is the nature of the net.

to be honest i think that's part of the problem, the good old rper have become gms and arn't seen as often in ps and that has coused me to have a much duller look on ps, sure new rpers come but it's still not the same, yeah yeah i know stuff change but this is just how i see it at the moment anyway.

I would not say it is part of the "problem" I would say it is a current issue, which informs what is identified as a problem. For me it is not a problem, it is a huge benefit. Things are getting done much faster and with much better results devside and gmside.

I can not make apology for drawing on some of the best in our community to join the dev team or gm team, although the day to day feel of rp may have diminished to a degree but the long term net effect will improved "rp features" for the game. By having people who rp inside the tent advocacy for things that can enhance rp by making it central from art to engine to settings to rules increases. You are gonna have to trust me on this as I see it happening everyday in internal development.

I still think it is vital to be forward looking instead of navel gazing, so make sure you do what you can to improve rp in PS TODAY.

I resent that my calling you a pansy got grouped in with bad RP and people wanting to stalk you...

What I said was done in an attitude of the amused older brother...

RP has gone down the drain somewhat... Although like Mooney and Xillix pointed out, that's just a stage and technically it's all being worked towards something more positive. When I think of the "good old days" I remember days when the community was small and everyone knew everyone. Hence there were a few small feuds, but for the most part everyone got along. All the guilds were RP guilds because that's all there was, and the guild leaders knew each other and of each other and would RP vendetta's and all sorts of fun stuff... Now it seems that although "No man is an island," an RPer sure is.
