How to ask a NPC about another NPC
« on: December 13, 2007, 04:03:30 pm »
Hi

I cannot figure out how to ask a NPC about another NPC. Let's say that I have to get more info about John Doe. How do I ask to a NPC about John Doe.

I have tried all that. "About John Doe", "What do you know about John Doe", "Who is John Doe", "Tell me about John Doe", "What can you tell me about John Doe"
It doesn't work.

A lot of NPCs don't know about/won't tell you about one another. It's very likely that you're using the correct syntax but the NPC you're talking to has no knowledge area about that other NPC.

When you get ten posts here you can PM me and I'll look into it, and add it if I deem it reasonable for them to know each other.

There are two guys outside the tavern in the first city. One of them is a guard. I'm helping him out to find out if a certain NPC is carrying out illegal activities. He told me to get information about him by asking to other NPC's.
It would be great that if an NPC doesn't know about the person, at least say something like "I don't know him". However, NPC's responds as though you have worded the sentence incorrectly, in other words, they dont understand you.

Seems your wish got granted even before you asked :). From history.txt, 2 days ago:

- Added 'unknown' npc trigger. This allows us to have a seperate 'error'
response for a question. (e.g. "Sorry I don't know." instead of
  "I don't understand.")

No idea if this will immediately work, or require work on the NPCs themselves though.

Oh, my  :)
However, I haven't got an answer "Sorry I don't know". I got something of the "I don't understand" line. I think I'm wording the sentence incorrectly.
