Hi, my name is Mortagen and i have a few questions before i decide to download the client and play. 

- What things should i know before playing?
- How will i know what to do and where to start?
- How many people play this game at any one time?
- How much is a fair amount to donate per month if i do enjoy the game?
- Will it run on my pc very well?

PC Specifications

Dual Pentium 3 "Tualatin" 1.4ghz @ 1.4ghz - 512kb cache each.
4x1gb ddr 2700
ATI Radeon x850xt in an agp 4x slot (does being in a 4x slot reduce performance much?)
Windows 2000/XP - I swap from time to time.

You should know how to role play, how the setting works and what kind of character you want to play. Use the guides and sites provided.

- How will i know what to do and where to start?
I believe you begin in a tutorial, so that should be fairly easy to know.

- How many people play this game at any one time?
Usually from a hundred to a hundred and fifty (as far as I know).

- How much is a fair amount to donate per month if i do enjoy the game?
It's only fair to donate if you think you should do so, and then whatever the amount you feel like donating.

- Will it run on my pc very well?
I think it will.

monetary wise, probably so.  but there are other ways to donate than throwing a pile of cash at something.

"Mirror lacks a version file, can't use it"  is the message i get when i try to use the updater and the recovery updater...

don't worry about updating.

3.20 is good to go out of the fresh out of the box.

though as for a fair value  planeshift is free for 30 days. after that... well, it is still free but planeshift owns your soul.

Honestly, I'd say to save your money and if you wish to donate, simply play the game and enrich the world with your presence.  If you are more technical based, then hop on the bug tracker and see if you can be of service with help findind solutions to bugs and what not.  Or if you are more of the artistic type then there are always textures/items to be modeled/ etc etc to be done.  Monetary donations are pretty much useless atm, and pretty much will always be.  Only reason the donate option is there is becuase after years of people refusing to not want to donate money, they finally gave in and added a donate option.  Only thing money will ever go towards is maybe if something should happen to the server or what not, but everything is donated to us out of good will, so that will probably never be an issue.

As for the updater, it is currently disabled, and s not needed to play.  A fresh install of the .3.20 client will allow you to login and create your character.

Anyways i don't know what i've done but i'm lost near a guy called Xargon gums. 



How do i get out of here??? there are two big gates in this huge stone wall but i can't get out either... one is compeltely closed and the other has 2 sets of gates... one open and the other closed... and i've been going around in circles for about an hour trying to figure out how to leave! 

Please help!?

all newly created characters are sent to the tutorial world before they are allowed access to the main world.  forces people to learn how to work the game.

when the tutorial world was released with this latest version release, all characters marked with having something like 10 hour or less of game time logged, were flagged so that they as well had to go through the tutorial world.  and again, thats on an individual character basis, not account.

It's a bit more now. We checked the server this morning and it was 167. A safer bet would be to say 100-200.

Whatever you like. Nobody's forcing you to donate, and donating gives you no bonuses inside the game (a la Maple Story, Kingdom of Loathing or any other secondary-economy rpg.) If you enjoy the game, a better "donation" would be telling your friends or writing up positive reviews on mmo sites.
