No icons or mouse pointer

I installed with the Gentoo ebuilds, and all went well, but when I try to play, there are no icons on the screen, and I don't have a mouse pointer, so I can't control where I'm clicking.  Am I missing something obvious?

I had that problem when I ran the client I built before. I guess it's an art problem, you may be missing some art/data files and you should get them (in the binary packages for example).

Anyway I never solved that problem, so, maybe there is something more to do.

you have to change your skin to fix this issue, as it says in the build guide and it says in many other places on this forum.

Ahh, that's what I missed.  I should have assumed that the default skin wouldn't be "default."  Thanks.
