It is dark, so dark, even during the day...

Hello all,

The problem I have is that everything is dark. I mean very dark.
During the night time, I can't move because all is totally dark. I can only see NPC, players and the few lights scaterred around.
During the day, although it is not much better, some parts of the city are so dark as one can think it is the night.
The only place I can move in during the night is the sewers.

I updated my video drivers to the last version. My card is a GeForce 6200 256MB.

I even used the -fullbright switch. The lighting seems normal for 5 seconds at the log in, then everything turns dark.

Too bad if I can't play, planeshift could be nice to play 

Any thoughts ?

right now with the new lighting system --fullbright does not work anymore. Untill the new system is improved there is not much that can be done to improve the lighting ingame.

You could always turn up your gamma.  Has worked for me with other games that I had problems with.

I already increased the gamma value to see if that helps. It is quite high already but doesn't help much.

I guess it is over for me

When me and my friends still played, we had -fullbright on all time. Not just because of computer speed but Planeshift is the darkest and most depressing word I ever seen.

So not everyone really enjoys "the beautiful shadowing".

Yes. I do think the lighting system is sometimes annoying BUT it would be fixed if we had... ummm... torches!

I like it. But I think night should be darker. There aren't many artificial lights in Yliakum, so night time should be much more dark than in a modern city.

Don't forget that Yliakum isn't earth and the crystal lights it. As we know, neither of them are turning around each other. The light of the crystal should be approximatively constant (but I'm not gonna write what is already written about the setting)

Meaning that the settings writes "the radiation that the crystal emits varies during the day, effectively setting up periods of brightness and darkness akin to day and night"? It's not constant, no, and it's not going to be.

I also dislike this ultra dark setting. I doesn'tmake a lot of sense to me why the night is so dark that it's hard to get anything done and see where you are going. Is this a map issue (baked textures) that can be updated or is this a more involved problem.

Is this similar to how the forest is all black?

I heard one thing about game design - ask yourself "Is this fun" and stumbling through the night for a quarter of the playable time is not fun.

It is actually not so bad for me because I know most paths, but to someone new it must be very annoying.

If we could get night sight and infrared sight that would also be a solution for most races. Having it is actually not so odd, real humans do have night sight even if it is not as good as a cat's.

I like the darkness... It is fine, No  I realy could care less, but You still have to be able to see! It is a game, not the real world and at night you can't see some guy right in front of you! Plus there are places like the forest outside of Hydlaa where you can't see sqaut 24/7.
