Tells, Guild Chats and Group Chats
« on: January 09, 2008, 10:51:53 pm »
I can help but wonder if there is so much chatting going on is the reason why it is so silent in the plaza. I think it hampers role play a great deal when someone says ‘Greetings’ to someone else and gets no response.

Not necessarily. Lots of people go afk now an then. But it does annoy me slightly when people leave their disembodied character around to give you the blank stare when you try to talk to them.

The blinking tabs are annoying enough to alert the player that someone is talking to them.
Confusion is always the most honest response

Also, as has been pointed out often, the Plaza is hardly the best place to find people to roleplay with...

Please tell me where the 'best' place to role play is Phinehas. Is this a place where people do not chat in tells and such so I can really talk to someone. Back when I first started, the plaza was were I learned to role play. AHH, the good old days, where have they gone?

You could try the tavern. No self-respecting non-roleplayer would hang out there.

I agree... the tavern. As for the good old days... har-de-har.

The tavern really needs some kind of filtering as when there are a lot of people it is almost impossible to carry on a coherent conversation because two connected utterances may be 6-7 lines apart. Certainly the different levels ought to have separate chat spaces. If I am having a quiet conversation by the fireplace someone at the bar should not be able to overhear it. I do not know how you could implement it though.

I, myself go half-afk when mining or crafting very often, too. It is just too boring to hit the button every 10 or 20 seconds and watch the characters motions. Some players roleplay while doing this, but I think most do what I do: browse forums, the web, watch a movie etc. There are some exceptions where crafters/miners RP while they are doing their jobs, though. But I understand that after some time of working without any RP, you focus your attention on something else.

Depends on the situation ;) When someone is just afk It's annoying, but most leave a "auto reply" when you /tell them to wake up
But ignoring someone completely can also be a 'RP'  ;)
