Program stops by itself
« on: January 10, 2008, 04:31:52 pm »
I'm new to this game , and really respect your project.
When I try to log in , the game stops by itself , no error message shows up though.
any help is welcome  >o) .

*edit*

I'd like to add that the connection latency is pretty high (600 to 1000 and sometimes it says "failed") , and that  I could play mmorpgs with the same firewall configuration.

I'm using OpenSuSe . I don't think it has something to do with the graphical card since I could play 3D games such as tremulous and Sauerbraten which requires high graphical performances.When I click on "OK" , it says " connecting to the server , please wait.." for about 5 secs and then the the game disappears and I get back to the desktop.

I tested the game on my brother's Windows XP box , and it worked perfectly .

While not an expert at Linux, I am an experienced IT tech, and when someone asks the question about your ocmputer specs it's usually for a very good reason, just saying "it's not that" isn't really good enough. For instance there are issues with PS and certain vid cards regradless of whether or not they meet the requirements.

I didn't have that good reasons  ::)
Anyway, it's an unknown error for me, hopefully someone else can help.
As last tip, try to start planeshift in a console window, possibly there some errors show up

Concerning the graphical card, I use the motherboard's card .

Seriously, thats simply not good eneough. MANY onboard vid cards won't run, PS specially the older Intel onboard vidcard chipsets and the S3 chipsets.

Click start->run type in "dxdiag" (no quotes) and go to the display section, it will tell you there what grphics chipset you are running

yes, something int he 7000 or 8000 series staring  with wither the 7600 or 8600 should do the trick, but do you know if your motherboard uses AGP cards or PCI Express cards? Or even if it has a slot for a graphics card at all?
