Mac users still not able to get into bronze doors-area?
« on: January 10, 2008, 05:21:15 pm »
Just found out from older threads that Mac Users can't (couldn't?) enter the bronze doors area. tried to update which told me that the servers where not available or something, so nothing go updated. Here's the last part of consoloe-output:

crystalspace.engine.warning:
Couldn't load cached lighting for 8 object(s). Use -relight to calculate
  lighting:
      Buildings
      Ground_right
      rocks22
      rocks2
      ...

What happens is: The loading screen appears (with the image of the bronze dors-area), the progression-bar at the bottom gets filled with blut completely (as if loaded 100%) and then the spinning beachball appears. Running the thing on a 1GHz-G4-iMac with 1.25 GByte RAM, if that matters).

That error [part of the console log] has nothing to do with loading ablity of that map anyone that loads that map [on any os] would have the same output at that time. I am not sure if the issue with loading has been fixed or not.

This bug should have been fixed. Try the various bug-fixes listed in the stickies. If nothing works, try reinstalling.

Not sure, what bugfixes you're talking about. I don't have an ATI-graphics card. Also, updating did not work (both via doubleclck on updater and via calling the updater_static via Terminal; gave me server 404-errors and messages about "bad version info in file ...". And the updater_static crashed shortly after giving me the messages.

Also tried a new planeshift-folder with unchanged preferences and still the same. It looks as if planeshift loads completely (the blue bar is filled up) and the window says "Loading game / Requesting connection / Loading World" and then it seems to crash (can only use "force quit").

I did read that. I just wanted to point out that I tried everything I could think of and that nothing helped.

Have you tried to replace the bronzedoors.zip map by the one in this topic?

Thanks, tried that and it did not make any difference. I managed, however, to get back into the game by a rather obscure and (I guess) not recommended way. Will not try to enter BronzeDoors for a while now.

Hi again,

tried once again to enter the Bronze Doors-Area (after downloading the Game again to test a fresh installment) and th problem did not change. One other thing I noticed is that when I load any of the other areas and I switch from Planeshift to other programs and back again, Planeshifts' display usually changes. It shows parts of the maps that are being loaded, some kind of overview. But when I do the same while loading the BronzeDoors-Area, nothing of the graphics get changed at all. It only shows the picture with the castle and the water. So it seems that while Planeshift pretends to load the worlds it seems to do nothing at all, not even loading parts of the Bronze Doors-map.

The problem seems to be something else...

Hi again,

meanwhile I found out some things that change the situation.

- it seems as if the problem is specific to my mac, as another player tried it out on his G4 (with OSX 10.4 also) where it worked.

- as it seems, the client doesn't crash (technically) but gets awfully slow when loading the Bronze Doors-Area. I found that out, when I let the client run, when I was away. After I came back (about two hours later) the window showed my character on this lightbrown pathway of the new area. So it seems., the area had been loaded. But the display of Planeshift was frozen (couldn't do anything, so Planeshift did not crash, but "hang") and via ActivityViewer I found out that Planeshift used about 1.38 Gigabyte of RAM and about the same amout of virtual memory.

Don't know if this does anything to solve the problem, though.

Hi all,

just wanted to say that I finally found the problem. Had read about the "fullbright"-solution but didn't read the guide quite right. When I changed that CMD-config-file as it should be (had linebreaks in it instead of spaces) BronzeDoors loaded.

Can only say sorry for the inconvenience and for bothering you with something I should have found out myself.
