Idle animations...
« on: January 13, 2008, 06:43:05 pm »
Dwarves, and enkis simply look around, which is nice... Because its not something so drastic that it could be misunderstood as an action.

But ynwnn's stretch, ynwnn females bend over, klyros seem to never be able to satisfy that itch on their necks, and dermorian males always have itchy ankles. This is annoying, and really unnecessary, wouldn't a simple look around animation like fenkis or male dwarves work better for an idle animation - really?

I was brought more aware of this during a little espionage mission where I was hiding behind a tree, as if it weren't hard enough to hide a ynwnn alone, I had to deal with him stretching his arms out every now and then, giving away his location.

These 'idle' animations that klyros, ynwnn, and dermorians do are hardly what I'd qualify as Idle, more like an action all on their own... I'm a guy who has many pet peeves, but really I think this is just something that the devs should consider changing...

I call for a temporary fix until Diaboli get their own models. :P

An interesting request but I can see your point.  However, I don't think they will be changed until all the races are out at least.

I'd rather have no idle animation... like male enkis, or kran... 'look around' could be added later when all models have their own skins... If it would be a hassle.

I almost forgot how annoying my dermorian's constantly itching ankles were - after a short time though Noriin modified the files and.... ahh, no more doglike scratching the fleas biting all the time! Yay!

So yes, I agree with it: The soft and discrete idle anims are very nice, like twirling a tail a bit, or a look around.
But what male/female Ynnwn are doing is close to very annoying: They stretch (and prolly yawn...) all the time like the laziest and most bored people around.

Since dermorians were modified in 019 and that anim added I wouldnt expect it like that. However though, deleting/commenting them out shouldnt be a lot of work, would it?

The idea is that each race will have more animations that randomly kick in. For now, the races that have models in the first place, have only one. You could complain that your race has one that you don't like, but I think we should be happy that all existing races have animations in the first place.

I think thats a bad idea, as it kinda kills the moment for certain RPs, IE: why would a character decided to stretch and yawn when hes trying to hide quietly behind a thin tree... Its kinda making assumptions about someone's character, as far as personality goes.

Perhaps the solution would be an idling option that could be switched on and off as well as a timer slider for when it kicks in and how often it is activated.

I kinda like that...it would work.

The 'itch' 'yawn' 'sneeze' 'dwarf lookaround' and other animations are not part of the idle animation. They are separate files that kick in every so often. You can disable them all if you like.

I would like them to not be connected at all. Nothing wrong with just standing around breathing. Then you have prebuilt animations ready for /itch, /yawn, /sneeze, and /dwarflookaround. I already switched out the Ynnwn female 'sneeze' animation with the /greet one. Now she does a deep bow for /greet, and a less annoying flyswat every so often. :)

You could edit your files locally, but you'd be the only one seeing those changes obviously, so it would not take away Earl's problems.

They are (used as) idle variations. If you are idle for a while, or sitting for a while, or in combat for a while, they kick in :) But that is part of other problems that it seems are being fixed.

I would like to mention that I don't mind the idle animations myself. But I do mind the fact that they all kick in at the exact same moment in time.

So you can come across a large group of 10 or more people talking to each other and then they all sneeze, itch, stretch, and look around at the EXACT same moment. I hate that...

Idle animations should actually kick in when a player is idle, in other words when you set your 'Away' status to on. They shouldn't kick in when training, talking, trading and whatever other action doesn't require physical movement.

Yawning and stretching while you're actually having a very interesting conversation is quite anti-RP, like Earl said.
