The Twins: Vidoferus
« on: January 16, 2008, 10:08:36 pm »
Today Vidoferus sat up in his bed instead of staying lying down. Even though the sun wasn't even up today, he wanted to make sure he remembered his dream. It was a dream about his twins and his parents. He hadn't thought much about them, because he was almost thirteen and he was training for the hunts he would soon have to take part in. All he really knew about them came from the village elder. He had told him that he had needed to be healed magically, because of a birth defect. For whatever reason, they had left his brother behind in another town. It seems that his parents thought his twin brother would be fine, but an epidemic struck the town not long after. For most adults and healthy children, all that happened was they got sick, were bedridden for a few weeks, and then got better. His brother was sickly as it was, and his fate was much worse. The villagers had done all they could to help, but in the end, his brother had died. But the strangest thing had happened after that. His parents had left with a caravan going to Hydlaa. They never made it. The rumors were that the caravan was attacked by rogues and everyone was killed. Something wet landed on his hand and he flinched, looking up. His vision was all blurred, and his cheeks were wet. He realized that he must have been crying, and his tear must have fallen on his hand. He slowly wiped his eyes off and got up to go outside and face the day.

"Vidoferus, what's with you today, you can't even pick up the sword by the right end today!" His instructor yelled at him while rattling his shield. Vidoferus quickly snapped to attention and flipped his sword around. He had drifted off thinking about his dream while his instructor lectured. "I am ready now, I was just making sure you were paying attention" Vidoferus said, with a half-smile on his face.
His instructor frowned "I do not need to be worried about my opponents' incompetence in a battle, it is just another advantage they grant me. And believe me, you will need all the advantages you need against me, but especially your enemies"
Vidoferus bows his head and says "Sorry master. But don't worry I have improved, I know I have a chance against you this time."
"I did not bring you here to fight, have you forgotten the ritual is soon? Are you  prepared for it?"
"Y-yes I should be." But in truth, Vidoferus had forgotten all about it. He had not been practicing for the ritual, he had wanted to show his master up, or at least show his master that he had improved greatly.
"Make sure you are completely ready. It would not do to not only let down this village, but more importantly, the Alliance. Make sure you know the rites too of course. Do not forget what to do the day of the ritual either. That should be all for today, and we will not need to see each other until after it is completed. Just have everything learned Vidoferus. Do not dissapoint me."

[more when I think of more for both of them]

It was the day of the ritual and he was up before dawn to start. He was wide awake, a sign he did not know how to interperet. He headed out past the perimeter of the village, and up the mountain the town was snuggled up against. There was a rosy color in the air, and it tasted nice and clean. He had picked up a bucket on the way out, then looked at the sky. Despite what the air might seem to tell him, the sky said something entirely different. It was filled with ugly blackish clouds whispering rain was to come. He headed up the mountain knowing he had to do this no matter the weather. He was glad he was at least not born in Dwanden or Novari. He hurried nonetheless to avoid as much rain as he could. He got to the lake and filled the bucket to the top. He then started making his way back very carefully, not spilling a single drop. He grimaced as he realized his muscles were cold and he should have warmed up before this. Almost immediately he heard 'tinking' and felt the first drops fall on him. Soon after this, the torrent started. He paused for a second, noticing the rain was coming down almost sideways. It wasn't particularly windy, in fact, there was no wind. He shook his head, causing a shower of water to fall from his hair. He was almost glad for the rain, to cover up what mistakes he might make with the bucket, even though it was flying almost into his eyes now. Even with the odd rain in his eyes, he was glad he didn't have to fight the wind all the way back. He slowly worked his way back to the village and down the mountain, barely tilting the bucket.

Vidoferus finally made his slow way down the mountain and into town. The rain had not let up, but at least it hadn't worsened. He arrived in the center of town, and placed the still-full bucket down. There was nobody here, but it was early and raining. Even so, he felt something was wrong. He want over and glanced toward the gate. Where two people should have stood were just more puddles. Whatever the weather, there were guards out there, even in the coldest parts of Dwanden. Then, a voice almost as chilling as the air around him spoke out "Expecting someone?"
Turning around quickly, he sees a face he recognizes "Master! Where is everyone?"
The master laughs then pauses before saying "They were sent to a place, and you will soon be joining them there"
Vidoferus looks around, as if searching for some portal. Finding none he returns his eyes to his master, now with a sword drawn. "W-what do you mean?" then gesturing toward the sword "What's that for, it's not part of the ritual"
The master laughs again, swinging the sword menacingly "It's for sending you there"
Vidoferus recoils, realizing what he means. He slowly draws his own blade, not believing what he is about to do.
The master sneers when he sees that "Ha, you think you can defeat me? The Alliance is dead, what would you gain from this, except prolonging your fate? Yes, that's right, the attack that happened here is happening in all the other towns as we speak. In the next few hours, everyone in the Alliance will be sent to the Realm of Dakkru."
