Problems with experience/training
« on: February 22, 2008, 11:58:57 am »
Hi all, I landed here a few days ago.
I am quite confused about the skill/training system. Here are my doubts.
Pasting from the Gameplay FAQs:

> What do the yellow, green, red, and blue bars near the skills mean?

> Yellow
> Amount of theoretical knowledge (training) needed before you start the practical part (working with that skill).
> Green
> Amount of theoretical knowledge achieved (when training) or amount of practical experience (when practicing)
> Red
> Amount of practical experience required up to next level
> Blue
> Your current progression points. (If the blue bar is longer than the yellow bar, you can complete the theoretical training for the skill in question.)

Okay, so this is what I understood: if I have just a yellow bar, that means I don't have enough training in the theoretical part. I need to get experience and money so that I can buy training and increase my green bar. When my blue bar exceeds the yellow one, I can convert it in a green bar and once the green bar covers completely the yellow one I'm ready to start practicing on this skill. I can then use the skill to raise my blue bar until it reaches the top of the red bar. When I do this I switch to the next level of experience in that skill and everything starts again.

But then, now I'm in a situation where ALL my skills have just yellow and red bars. I bought some training with my first trias on mining from the hammersmith but I just had a few points and a few trias, so the green bar is veeeeery short. I still have a long yellow bar, that means I can't PRACTICE mining because I don't have enought theoretical training, right? So how can I get experience in mining, since even if I had money to pay for it, I'd still unable to use it because the green bar is shorter than the
yellow one?

I guess the answer is that I need to make progression point by probably killing rats in the sewers. But I've been fighting a rat in the game window while writing this post and still he didin't damaged me, nor I damaged him. So no killing rats -> no money and no experience and prog points -> I'm stuck.
Or is it common practice to make NPC quests until you have enough money and experience to start building your character by practicing skills and interact with other players?

For sure I misunderstood something. I'd like to roleplay a crafting character (especially a bowmaker once the skill is up) so I'd like to enhance my character skills a little.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

that problem comes after a server crash and its known :)

have you tried to attack it in Bloody? or get some people in a group to kill it? when the first one will died, the others which will spawn after, will be easy to kill (as its normally is)  :)

it will surely help you to move on something else  :whistling:

You can also get experience and Progression Points by solving quests; unfortunately, there are many quests which expect some advanced level of stats & skills ... but I am sure that people can tell you about a few easier beginner quests. In game. ;)

Yeah, I posted this because it was a gameplay/game system question. So the quests are the first step to take. Thank you very much!

Quests don't need to be the first step to get experience. They are one of two. And killing monsters is usually the more reliable way, once you trained your stats & skills enough (starting an "intellectual" char is a challenge still).

Well, what he actually wanted to know - I think - is that:
Yes, at the moment you can't just mine to advance in mining. You have to do something different to get enough progression points in order to advance in mining (theoratically you could just do mining, but it would be much slower). This is kind of a known issue and you didn't do anything wrong or missed something important,
I didn't read anything official about that beeing supposed to be this way, so I guess this issue will be worked on, somewhen.

There is one thing that might be of interest in this issue: If you mine some metals you make a lot more money than with others. It is possible to make the money for the training through mining. (You might already know that or not.)

Thanks that helps a lot and yes, it was the main part of my doubts about training. About mining metals, someone told me in game =) this makes sense, at least.
Thanks again
