There is a Enkidukai who spends most of his time stalking the back streets of hydlaa. An unidentified pestilence to the Hydlaa guard, a menki with no clear objective in life but to cause trouble, or so it would seem. This is his story...

After several violent attacks on kada-els tavern, the Enkidukai was subdued, and with no trial, thrown into a cell.

Blind rage
Chapter one.

Furious pounding echoed through the jail, as the enkidukai of our story beats his hands against the cell door for hours until an annoyed patrol guard walks up to the cell door and swings it open, knocking the menki onto his back... The nine foot tall kran was clad in black clothing with thick leather boots, he wore a black cloak over kras clothing and a steel helm over kras face. The guard stepped into the cell, his expression unknown because of his helm. The enkidukai convict looked up at the guard and quickly got to his feet and began to slowly walk up to the guard.

"Why goo-"

The kran guard swiftly cuffed our enkidukai across the face, he spun around from the impact and landed on the floor face down with blood coming out from his lower lip.

"Be silent, convict."
The guard said in a dark emotionless voice.

The enkidukai winced at the pain and slowly rose onto one knee, wiping the blood away from his chin, he glanced around before hearing the iron cell door slam shut, as the kran guard walked out. The enkidukai limped over to a wooden bench in the cell, which was splintered and nearly rotten from the exposure to moister in the jail. His eyes glanced around the cell, before finally settling on a ylian on  the floor in the corner of the cell, with a full shaggy beard, and torn clothing.

"What are you in for?"
The enkidukai asked.

The ylian glanced up and mumbled something which could not be heard.

The enkidukai nodded and looked back at the iron cell door.

"... I took the law into my own hands."

The ylian mumbles something else which catches the enkidukai's attention, he immediately turns and glances at the ylian in the corner of the cell.

"No, that wasn't what ended me up here..."
The enkidukai chuckles

"No, rather it was the mistake of taking the law into my own hands, against two lawmen."

The shaggy ylian mumbles something else and the enkidukai leans back on the bench against the cold stone wall behind him.

"The name is Cerurle, or at least thats what they said it was."

The ylian scuffles to the side and leans back against the corner of the cell, before letting out a loud snorting sound.

Cerurle stands from the splintered bench and walks up to the cell door, peering through the 2x2 feet bars that were at eye level on the door... Guards, walking up and down the cell hall ways, wearing light armor and carrying wooden clubs in their hands. Cerurle peeked around, from his small vantage point, but could not find any windows, he had no idea where he was.

Letting out a deep sigh the enkidukai turned and walked back over to the bench and laid down, for he was tired. He noticed he had been stripped of his custom made black leather armor, instead he was clothed in loose fitting white cloth without a shirt. He also noticed his wounds had been wrapped.

Despite this he laid back down on the splintered bench and shut his eyes.

Everyday a guard of unknown identity passes by the cell and delivers poor quality food, borderline rubbish to cerurle, yet they never deliver a small plate for the ylian who shares the cell with him for whatever reason... Despite the amount of food being so little, cerurle rips some of the guessed-to-be kikiri meat and tosses it over onto the ylian's lap. He assumes the ylian is eating it, for every time he awakens the meat is gone. Days continue to pass, just like this, until...

The cell door creaks open once more.
Chapter two.

The door is opened by the familiar kran guard clad in armor, who steps in and looks around, almost ignoring cerurle completely as he motions for two other guards to follow him into the now cramped cell.

"Here is where its coming from... Get 'em out of 'ere!"

The kran guard glances at the ylian before turning and walking out of the cell, the two other guards who followed him reach down and lift the ylian up and drag him limply out of the cell before slamming it shut behind them. Cerurle blinks in surprise as to what the guards were talking about, but he dismissed the thought quickly, and began to wonder why he even cared...

More days passed just like before, but this time, cerurle was alone, and had no one to talk to, so he spoke aloud to himself in an undertone. An irritated guard occasionally stopped by and beat against the cell door with his club trying to rattle cerurle and shut him up.

Cerurle laid asleep on the splintered bench in his cell, awakened by rats running around on the floor, he tiredly sits up and looks around for a minute, then something catches his ear... footsteps, no not one pair from the night patrol, rather, three, no... four!... Four footsteps, and they were getting louder. Cerurle rose from the bench and stepped up closer to the cell door to look outside of his cell.

The iron door whipped open and threw cerurle onto his back. Two hooded and darkly dressed men stepped in and laid hold of cerurle by his shoulders and lifted him to his feet. Cerurle looked around, and his eyes finally rested upon a small man dressed in a torn crimson robe with a steel helm covering his head. The small man looked back up to Cerurle as well and let out an echoed chuckle.

"So this, is him..."
The small man turned and walked out of the cell, the two darkly dressed men with cerurle pushed him forward out of the cell, and kept their tightly gripped hands on his shoulders, forcing him to walk with them behind the short one. Cerurle was puzzled, without doubt, this person was short as a dwarf, but was not as around like the rest, he was more build like a ylian.

Two iron clad guards walked ahead of the short man as they turned a corner which led to a dead in, with a single door at the end of the hall. One of the iron clad guards opened the door and allowed the others to step through.

Inside, was a dark room, too dark to see anything but unlit torches hanging from the walls... The robed dwarf like one stepped forward and turned to face cerurle who was still being held firmly by the two darkly robed men. The dwarf clapped his hands together and the torches lit up with a glorious flame.

Cerurle winced at the brightness for he had gotten used to the dark, but upon adjusting, he looked around, his eyes widened, the walls were adorned with mounted tools and weapons, bloodied hooks, daggers, swords, knives, and nails hung from the walls all around... In the center of the room, was a white blood stained tarp covering a table, and int he far corner of the room, a rusted gibbet hung.

The dwarf chuckled and walked over to the tarp covered table and removed the tarp with one hand, revealing a blood stained stretching rack, which looks as if it had been used recently... The dwarf threw the tarp over to the side and turned to face cerurle, he put his hands on the side of his steel helm and slowly lifted his helmet off his head, revealing a burnt, almost skinless face with no lips; bone showing through here and there.

"Welcome... to my home, Cerurle.... You are the guest of honor!"

The skull faced dwarf cackled with laughter and the two darkly robed men forced cerurle to walk slowly towards the rack...

For weeks blood curdling cries echoed through the dungeon seemingly with no end... After each session drew to a close, cerurle was thrown in the same dank cell from which he was taken, more then often, he was unable to move at all, and simply laid on the floor until the guards came and brought him back to the torture room... Recently some guards brought two new prisoners to the dungeon, two ylians were placed in a cell directly across the hall from Cerurle. One day after cerurle had been thrown back into his cell for the day, one of the ylians spoke up.

"By talad's name boy, what are they doin ta ya?!"

Cerurle managed the strength to lift himself up and sit slumped against a wall in the cell.

"Havin... their fun..."

Cerurle replied with a weary battered voice.

The two ylians turned and looked at each other, before glancing back at cerurle.

"This can't be legal, the octorach would never allow such a practice!"

Cerurle almost chuckled at this comment.

"No, its not legal by a long shot... and this ain't no prison fellas... Its a barracks..."

One of the two ylians looked at cerurle with question.

"A barracks? What do you mean?"

Cerurle coughed up some blood and teeth before speaking again.

"All of us, are recruits, recruits to the one who calls himself the 'warden' of darkom... I over heard two guards speaking during one of my sessions in the torture room... Every servant and guard in here, used to be just like us."

One of the ylian's gulped as he peered down the hall and saw an iron clad guard standing, with a giant mace in his hands, cerurle turned his head weakly into that direction as well.

"Through torture, and fear, he will make us mindless servants, controlled by our fear for his very name... We will do without question what he commands."

Cerurle said weakly, he placed his left hand over his chest and winced.

"B-but we have done nothing! we're just farmers!"

Spouted one of the ylian captives.

Cerurle tried to chuckle, but it was too painful for him.

"Heh...gah..... "

He let out a weezing cough before speaking again.

"You aren't prisoners of the law, you're prisoners of a madman!"

One of the ylians shook his head and sighed.

"We can't stay here, we have to do something."

Cerurle nodded.

"Yeah.... but what can one do?"

Silence descended upon the hall of cells... a few lightly armored servants walked up and down the cell hall... And when no guards or servants were near by, one of the ylians whispered across the hall to cerurle.

"Those guards, they all have swords!"

Cerurle had been sleeping, or at least trying to. He opened one eye and spoke.

"And?..."

The ylian shook his head. "If we escape they'll slaughter us... But... no doubt they have keys... me and my friend here will get a guard to come close, and when you see your opportunity, grab him."

Cerurle opened both eyes, and stood slowly.

"Surely you're kidding, theres only a small space in this door's window I could stick my hands through.... and its sort of high up on the door too..."

The other ylian who had kept relatively silent spoke up.

"Oy, just move that splintered bench over and stand on it!"

Cerurle turned and his eyes lit up at the idea, he used all his strength to drag the bench across the floor, and move it to the base of the door, he then climbed up and stood on it, from here he was able to extend his arms out of the cell door window by about three feet.

"Alright... now keep them enki paws out of that window until the guard is close!"

The more talkative ylain said as he motioned for the other ylian to stand and move over to the cell door, he turned to him and put up his fists in a fighting stance.

"Alright buddy, give me a few good ones!"

The more silent ylian raised an eyebrow.

"W-what?"

The other ylian laughed.

"Punch me!"

The silent ylian put up his fists too.

"...I-I... Don't understand."

The other ylian laughed.

"Just do it or i'll punch ya!"

Cerurle in the meantime stood on the splintered bench, looking out of his cell at the passing guards... When suddenly a yelp rang in his ears followed by a loud ruckus. The two ylians in the cell were fighting! This drew the attention of a armor clad guard who walked up to the cell with a key in hand, and a mace, in the other.

The cell door flew open and the guard stepped in with the door way behind him open, the two ylians suddenly stopped fighting and tackled the guard into the hallway! The armor clad guard smashed against the floor with the two ylians on top, one grabbed for the keys while the other held him pinned down.

The ylian with the keys walked over to cerurle's cell and freed him, cerurle chuckled and nodded back to the ylian.

" So much for the plan... but...My thanks anyways..."

Cerurle turned to the armored guard and reached for the guard's sheathed short sword. Cerurle drew it, and ran the guard through with his very own weapon. One of the two ylian's cringed at this.

"Great!... Now the warden is going to kill us on sight rather then just throw us back in the cells!"

Cerurle turned to the two and furrowed his eyebrows.

"Goujah crap... We're getting out of here, if you two want to live then follow me!"

Cerurle turned and ran down the hall, without checking to see if the two ylians would follow, for he knew, they had little choice. One of the two spoke up as they ran through the maze like dungeon.

"Wait... How do we know which way is out!? None of us remember being dragged in here..."

Cerurle stopped running and turned back to the two.

"Its somewhere, and if you want to go back into your cells and spend another night with that warden... be my guest..."

The two ylians looked at each other and then back to cerurle, with a begrudged look of determination.

"The name is Web...."

One of the ylians reached out his hand to shake cerurle's, who followed in suit. The other folded his arms across his chest.

"Ruddeghbar is the name..."

Cerurle nodded to Ruddeghbar.

"Fair enough, lets not get too comfy though... That ol' warden has the touch of a blacksmith."

Web nodded in agreement and Ruddeghbar chuckled.

Cerurle looked around the area they now found themselves in, it looked a lot like the area they were at to begin with, no doubt this is a maze of sorts... He thought to himself.

"I reckon it would be best if we found the armory... Because we're going to be blindly fumbling around for a while til we find an exit... and likely we're gonna meet more guards."

Web stated bluntly.

Cerurle nodded, and then grinned.

"You have any idea where the armory is then?"

Web looked around before speaking.

"Well... I recall two guards talking softly down the hall from us when we were in those cells... I couldn't hear a lot, but one said 'alright go to th' armory...'.... And the fella he spoke to walked down the other end of the hall, more towards your direction."

Cerurle tried to piece together where this armory would be based on the vauge details web gave.

"We're a bit too far to map our way back now Web..."

Ruddeghbar said.

Cerurle nodded to Ruddeghbar.

"Well fellas, looks as if from here on out, we're gonna be walking blind in these dungons, til we either find the warden himself, or the armory."

Ruddeghbar interjected. "Eh...heh.... Or if we find the exit." he sheepishly added.

Web laughed and patted ruddeghbar on the shoulder.

"Relax Ruddeghbar..."

Cerurle arched an eyebrow.

"Well lets get moving, the sooner we get out of here the better, I don't even know where in yliakum we are..."

Yet another who kept me reading till the end. Great work. Go to the single author stories, Roberet's Tale, my post there states how rare it is for me to read something to the end.

I had doubts here and there but you kept up the pace right the way through. And I know what u mean by spur of the moment... When I'm writing stories I don't plan to write them, the idea comes and that's it I'm off. The only planning I do is when trying not to corner myself. (I never succeed XD)

And so the three walked the labyrinth-like dungeon, completely in the dark, except for the occasional lit torch mounted on the walls. The floor was wet, and this combined with the hours of walking created troublesome sores on the feet of cerurle, web and ruddeghbar. Unable to see the azure sun, none of the three had any idea how much time had passed, but around the fourth hour of the second day that they had been traveling the dungeon without direction moral amongst the group began to decay, until...

"Damnit!"

Shouted Ruddeghbar as he dropped to his knees and pounded his fists against the floor, Web, his friend rushed over to ruddeghbar's side.

"Whats wrong Rudde-"

Ruddeghbar cut web off in mid sentence. "We have been traveling this damn Dakkru pit for days! Its hopeless!" Cried ruddeghbar.

Web furrowed his brows. "Hey now calm down Ruddeghbar, we've managed to avoid detection."

Cerurle, the male enkidukai, stepped out from the shadows, dragging behind him, a ynwnn guard's corpse. He pulled it over to Web and Ruddeghbar and dropped it in front of them.

"Our luck may be running out." Cerurle stated morbidly.

Web cringed his teeth while ruddeghbar shuddered.

"You stupid menki! Now look what you've done!.... They will be out searching for us now, and when they capture us they'll show no mercy!"

Cerurle narrowed his eyes fiercely at Ruddeghbar. "You really think they'd do any less for us breaking out, killing a sentry, and avoiding capture for nearly two days?"

Cerurle shook his head, and knelt down next to the guards corpse, he then drew the guards short sword and handed it to web. "I figure if we can silently pick off a few sentry guards, we can at least be well armed."

Web nodded and then looked back to Ruddeghbar, who was cursing silently, web stood upright again. "Get yourself together Ruddeghbar, we gotta move."

Ruddeghbar scoffed at Web's comment. "Its a lost cause, we've been in here for two days, living off of nothing but dirtied water off the ground, and the occasional one eyed rat's corpse that died from some disease... We're goners... We're in no shape to fight, and when the warden's guards find us they'll... they'll String us up!!" Shouted Ruddeghbar.

Web interjected immediately. "Ruddeghbar you clacker! Shush up, you're making too much noise!"

Ruddeghbar persisted despite his friend's plea. "Goujah crap! You know we're done for, and its all that men-!" Ruddeghbar landed on his back, with five slashes across his face, Cerurle standing over him.

"Be silent, less I cut out your tongue... I brought none of this upon us, would you rather go back to your cell and spend the rest of your life as that warden's lab rat?..."

Web didn't know quite what to do, he just stared at cerurle, Ruddeghbar too was taken back, and was without words.

Silence decended upon the three for what seemed like a lifetime, but was only a solid minute.... A crash was heard behind the three, and as they all turned to see what it was, they saw a flame hovering in the shadows, seeming to be coming closer, until they saw a fully armored guard in plate armor holding a torch before them.

Cerurle swore at Talad's name and drew a short sword which he looted off one of the guards earlier, Web did the same, Ruddeghbar quickly got to his feet and his lower lip began to quiver as the guard stepped forward.

Another crash was heard as yet another guard appeared  down the other side of the hall, the three were trapped.

Ruddeghbar cried out. "I told you this would happen!!"

In reply cerurle hissed. "If it wernt for that big mouth of yours...."

A slow clap was heard as a dwarf dressed in a tattered red robe, with a steel helm covering his head stepped out from behind one of the iron clad guards.

"Well played... Well played indeed, frankly I didn't expect someone to actually try such a daring maneuver... They'd have to be very brave."

The warden chuckled. "Or very foolish."

Cerurle grit his teeth at hearing the dwarf's voice, for days that voice taunted him through hours of unspeakable torture that forever left  scars on him mentally and physically.

"So sad to say, though, that this is where your journey ends." The warden folded his arms across his chest, and the two guards on opposite ends of the hall began marching in towards the three, their shadows, blotting out the light from the torches.
