What do you play?
« on: March 28, 2003, 04:14:01 am »
Anyone here playing another other MMORPGs or something similar while waiting for Planeshift to come out, or at least get to a more advanced state?

I used to play EQ... played it for 3 years, but it\'s grown boring.  High end game in the thing is horrible.

I played Project Entropia before this. It\'s \"free\". You don\'t have to pay anything to download it or play it. It takes a long time to get an account.  Once you get an account you can make your character. Character customization is so awesome in that game. You can adjust almost everything about yourself (ear angle, size vertical and horizontal position (and that\'s just your ears).  I recommend you never actually start playing, though. Just creating characters and then restarting and creating new ones is the best part of the game.  In the game there are amazing graphics and a huge world. You can also dance and have all sorts of  expressions.
Now for the bad parts:
the lag is horrible and unlike any other lag (you go forward, then jump back to where you were, also, it almost always lags when you\'re fighting a monster, so you die a lot and it sucks)
the game isn\'t finished and isn\'t getting finished at any noticable speed
and here\'s the kicker: although the game is \"free\", you have to pay real life money to get money in the game. 1 US dollar for 10 PED(Project Entropia Dollar), and it is impossible to do anything without money.  Now, you can get PED and convert it back into USD, but that\'s just a catch, because you can\'t really make money. (Everything breaks eventually and ammo costs money), so you waste more money on ammo and equipment than you get from the monster you kill. Also, since everything is really worth money, no one will give you money.  If you beg for two weeks straight you might get 1 PED which is enough to buy 100 ammo. Too bad you have no gun. In another four weeks you could get 3 PED and buy the worst gun in the game that does absolutely NO damage and just wastes ammo (it is good for training though)

Well, that\'s about it. Have fun! ;)

I played PE! it was really fun! I didnt experience any lag while playing though.... even when I still had my 56k modem. Heh Heh, I begged a lot in the game :D I actually had a guy give me 10 PED once! I was really happy! THE WORLD IS SOOOO HUGE IN THAT GAME! HUGE DOESNT EVEN COME CLOSE TO HOW BIG IT IS!!! IT ACTUALLY TAKES DAYS!!! THATS RIGHT! DAYS!!! TO GET FROM ONE SIDE OF THE CONTINENT TO THE NEXT!!! well, im finished yelling now. The capital is also really huge! I also traveled from the capital to, uh? whats that cities name again? something about zues? anyways I traveled from the capital to zues by crossing over the MT. in between! The mountain there is so freaking awesome! I loved climbing the Mts. in that game! I could go on and on about this game but im gonna quit now. GO OUT AND DL IT! ITS FREAKIN AWESOME! :D  :D

EQ is sooooo dull.  I am waiting for Horizons to come out, which looks to be a real return to rpg (remember roleplay?)  I also played Morrowind for a while, which I found to be an incredible game though I really miss interaction, and after a while just killing things nonstop became dull.

After all these years of trying different MMOGs, I still find the first one to be the best, UO.   It has some lacking qualities and it has an outdated engine, but the overall game play is more fun than most of the others.  It has the best crafting system and its constantly revamped skill system makes the game less \"level\" oriented than the others.   The recent AOS expansion makes all this more so.  This good qualities will hopefully also ring true in PS skills, etc.

Ultima Online , it was the first \"modern\" MMORPG (released in \'97 I think... there were earlier ones, but no one counts Meridian 69 or Dark Sun Online due to the low number of players).   It is not free ($10 a month) and is still very active (~400,000 players... not the biggest anymore).  UO has a base 2D isometric interface with 3D models for chars and MOBs rendered on top.  EverQuest was the first true 3D/FPS style MMORPG.

The only online rpg game I played (that was not text) was Dark Ages by Nexon for like half a year (it was pay) the only real reason I quit though was because I was too lazy to download the update :P (all these downloads are way too big now!)

now I sit and post on these boards and talk on AIM, that\'s all

Well, I\'m playing Neverwinter nights right now. It costs about 30$, but after you\'ve bought it you can play it all you want over the net. I\'m not sure you can call it a MMORPG since the servers (uses gamespy) takes like 100 PCs max (it\'s something similar to Diablo II, but a lot better), but the feeling is there. There is unlimited types of weapons, ammo, armors, worlds etc. because the game includes an editor (which is the most powerful and easiest to use editor I\'ve ever used) where you can create all kinds of items with their own unique attributes.
It\'s also one of the few games where there is RP (Roleplaying) servers. There is actually servers for all kinds of players.
You can play it in single-player as well and download an unlimited number of mods. the whole world can be manipulated with so-called \"HAK-paks\" allowing you to add your own sound-FX, music, textures etc. into the game. There is a lot of people who loves this game so there is a LOT (and I mean a LOT) of modules you can play, both MP and SP.
One of the best things about the game is that you can become a dungeon-master in a module you, or some other guy have created and create missions for other players directly in game!
For example, just like in Dungeon Keeper you can control NPCs or monsters whenever you want, add monsters, surprise PCs etc.
There is a lot of other stuff that you can do as well...

If you don\'t know about this game you have missed something.
I strongly recommend it! :)
