Alchemist as career
« on: March 04, 2008, 06:14:02 am »
OK, maybe I should have placed this in the newbie section, but I don't consider myself a newbie since I've been roleplaying for almost 30 years.  Maybe I should though, because I've only been a citizen of Hydlaa for a few days.

I have one character that can be seen running back and forth to the iron mines, studying the craft of mining and metalurgy - hoping someday to make a living constructing weapons and armor for the fool hardy.  Things are going well, can't complain.

My question is this.   I developed a new character who wants to be an alchemist.  Skill level is 12.  Is this a viable career in PlaneShift yet?  Or is this waiting to be coded.  I understand that some careers are ready and that there are a lot more that will be added in the future.  So can an guy make an honest living developing and selling potions??  Poor guy didn't get a chance to go through the tutorial so he has nothing but the clothes on his back.

I don't know whether the ability to actually craft anything is in place yet, but I can definitely confirm that there are alchemical ingredients that have been added with the new update.  At least three that I've spotted, and I haven't looked hard.

This is something that is yet to be brought out into the open as yet. I have found nearly a dozen ingredients but no information as to what to do with them. I haven't looked very hard and it is uncertain whether they are alchemical, herbalistic, brewing or cooking ingredients or any combination of the above. All the ones I have found sell as raw materials so I am guessing that their corresponding skills are not yet available as the only people buying them have been smiths and general merchants and not the specialists you might expect.   It may be .4.01 .4.05 or some other update that will bring a use for them. Of course I could be wrong and they are already useful.

The descriptions on some of the new plants certainly claim they are of use in potions and other possibky alchemical processes.
