Cant connect to Laanx, but to others.
« on: March 06, 2008, 02:41:20 pm »
Hi.
I cant connect to Laanx server(while 150 players on), but to test servers(not mine, over internet).
I can ping Laanx(ping program, not ingame), i can update (from Laanx), i can just cant connect to the game ("Failed"/"isn't avaiable")
I use steelblue, on debian linux.
My router portforwards 7777 over TCP and UDP.
I dont have any firewall, except the router (the port is open, see above).

Why  can i connect to all servers but not to Laanx???
What do i have to do?
Pls help, PS is sooooo cool, i want to play again ;D

Well, if I`m reading the info at:
http://laanx.fragnetics.com/
right, the server is currently offline.

Yeah the server is down. However, this time it doesn't say Failed on the main menu, but you can't connect.

Occasionally the server gets caught in a lagspike and will show players online but you still wont be able to join. Please have patience and continue to try

on the webpage it shows playercount, but the client doesnt show it, only "failed".
if nobody can join, why do the playercount(on webpage) change???
is this because of the new version?
shall i wait?

You can't connect right now either? The server is up and working for me, so if it's still failing on your side, you might have a connection problem...

Or are you asking the question just in general? If that's the case, the webpage doesn't update instantaneously - there's a bit of delay sometimes.

Ping uses a certain port, dont ask me now which one though. I wouldnt compare its successful use with PS not working.

Since you still cant connect after all, zimmemic25, I am tending to exclude you always tried while the server being down.
What I wonder is, does the updater use port7777 either? If so, zimmemic25's client not being able to connect, after his updater could is rather odd. If not I would suggest to doublecheck your firewall and opened ports. Maybe you want to "apt-get update && apt-get install guarddog", which is a quite easily to use "firewall", where you could open the port additionally, to exclude any preset closed ports.
Since he can connect to test-servers though: They should be reached by port7777 only either, no?

Huh... thats really confusing..

If he is connecting to test servers is it possible he is running the wrong version to connect to laanx? What version are they running? Did he compile from source?

If I am not mistaking he downloaded his 0.4 as an already compiled one.

patience grasshopper.
and remember panic is always an option.

unless they have been modified, the built servers will run over 13331

the dev's haven't pulled the server for testing.
yes there is a chance, of solving it.

are you connected directly into your modem or are you going through a network?
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.
hardly because the shadow built the lexx.
the shadow will frighten laanx from my path.

i'm connecting through router to DSL flatrate connection, but the firewall is open.
telnet works

Updater says:
Checking for updates to the updater: No updates needed!
Checking for updates to all files: No updates needed!

EDIT: i'll try with gentoo now

I suppose it could be that your ip is banned for some reason. Do you have a static ip? Have you or someone you live with been naughty? Is your connection coming from someone, a school or whatever that may be shaping your traffic out of existence to the laanx domain?
are we playing 20 questions? If your ip is dynamic what happens if you reset the modem?
