Instant Crash in Setup and Almost in Client

Hello all. A thank you in advance for reading this post. *I have read the stickies*

Before I begin, here are my system specs:
I am running a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 Mac PowerBook. The OS is version 10.4.11. The graphics card is a GeForce FX Go5200.

Okay, here are my two (pretty large) issues 

The first: When attempting to start the PlaneShift setup the window opens for just an instant (just the frame of the window) and crashes. Here is the crash report:

And here is the second problem I'm running into: I can open the PlaneShift Client. I do get as far as the account screen. After I enter my email address and password and click on "OK" the application usually instantly crashes. In this instance I got to the character creation screen, clicked on Stonebreaker and then it crashed. Here is the report:

Did you try running as root with sudo? Yes, might be obvious since you read everything, but this solves many issues.

Jonerian, thanks. No I have not tried that. It's also beyond my Mac know-how. I apologize for not seeing that in the stickies. Can you link the thread that details how to do it?

Er - I can't find a mac HowTo right now. I am not using a Mac often but I try to help a little:

open a console window (You find that somewhere under system tools/programs or similiar, I forgot the right name).

in there you type

sudo psclient or

Code: [Select]

sudo planeshift (I am not completely sure if you have to put the whole path because a certain part of the installer might be broken at the moment and I also don't know where the game gets installed on mac..)

If it asks for a password, use you own account password. (This is how it works usually, when you have a normal install and use the "normal" user)


If that doesn't work, I hope a "real" Mac user can help you

Yea, I opened the console and couldn't input anything so I figured that might not work. I've read all the stickies. I'm not sure - there's not much out there about macs and the latest version of PS.

You are also not supposed to run it as root on linux, but you had to do that without update (as far as I remember) and if the update messes up the perms (which it still does) you can possibly run into problems again so you might have to do that.
But seems like it is different on Mac.

Just downloaded the latest version. I got a crash after seeing a white window in both pssetup and the client.

Power Mac G4 Tower
2x1.0GHz
1.5GB RAM
nVidia GForce 4 Ti 4600, 128MB
Mac OS 10.4.11

This fixed it for me:

Known issues:
1) Some graphics cards have problems with texture compression. If you experience problems loading the game disable texture compression by doing the following:
-Open the file data/config/r3dopengl.cfg in a text editor.
-Locate the following line and delete the leading semicolon:

;Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

should be:

Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_compression  = false

-Save the file (be sure the file is saved as text only).

  I can confirm the latest post as a suitable solve for the bug mentioned at the very beginning of this thread, just thought I'd let everyone know if you're having this problem, it's really a good idea to try this out, I almost passed it up as unnecessary, glad I didn't though. Xd So I thought I'd just let everyone know that I had the same exact problem, and fixed it using this, so It's definitely a good idea to at least try it. BTW, if you're having trouble finding this line of code, don't forget to use the find tool (apple+F), and search for this line.
