yes it is, its really annoying. i think planeshift should get another server so if 1 crashes or goes down then the other might be up and ppl will be happy.

Who knows when it will be up again. We will probably have to wait until someone can take a look at it. Oh and there is no need to make a "server up" or "server down" thread, somebody is usually already aware of it and someone will get to it as soon as possible.

Oh well.   Being mid-day in Singapore, that means their weekend ends faster, right?   So the server might be up sooner.

I would tend to agree with you that there is not a need for a special post each time there is a actual server outtage... IF the website actually updated with a proper status.

I understand that things will happen, but you can't really get upset with people who post here asking for a status when there is NO status given except the fragnetics page won't display. I have always checked here before posting to see if someone has already posted and even then only after several hours have passed since my first attempt to connect.

I know this is a volunteer project, but a little bit of professionalism in notifying the users would be appreciated. I know this sounds harsh, but I have volunteered to assist in this capacity, so i am not just complaining without offering a solution.

Mythryndel: We don't know the server goes down until it actually does - the only time it's actively taken down is right before an update to another client version, which is always mentioned on the main site or on the boards. Moreover, sometimes it just so happens that no one is around when the server crashes. People are asleep, or at work, or just offline and out of reach. However much I'd like to display more professionalism in this situation, it's just not always possible when we don't stay here 24/7. I hope you understand our situation.

Saurabh, we have no news to offer you at this time. As I stated, Xordan has contacted Fragnetics and made them aware of the problem, and they will be working on correcting whatever has caused it. But neither they nor we are around to give you updates by the hour. I apologize that this has happened on a weekend, but please be patient.

I understand that people sleep and work and whatever. Even if i were to be able to start contributing my services to the project, I would still be unavailable during certain times of day. I have only been around the game since February, and I have noticed that if there is a planned outage, there is notification. The problem is when there is not something planned. If the "news" box at the top could automatically fill in if the game server is physically down, or possibly a status if each of the other services (NPC server) are down. I am happy to work with people to make this happen. I think that you would have to field far fewer complaints if this could happen.

This particular outage started mid-day on a weekend. I may be naive, but I would assume that someone associated with the game would have been around within a couple of hours and been able to update the "news" section at the top of the forums pages, or posted a notice here. If this is a bad assumption, please correct me.

Please understand that I am not attempting to tear down the devs or this game. I have enjoyed the last couple of months while playing. I have no intentions of quitting the game. I have seen an area that i am capable of improving, and that i believe really does need to be improved.

The only ones available to change the news box are Acraig and Talad, who are so busy that -we- often have a hard time getting a hold of them... :) Giving that privilege to another would also mean making them an admin of the board, which is not something to be taken (and given) lightly.

But I do like the suggestion of visible status updates somewhere. If it's possible to write a script that this board could employ, I'm more than sure we'll put it to use. If you (either on your own or with help from others) could do such a thing, it would be a great service. Several of our players have written various IRC bots and web scripts that display the server's ups and downs, so I'm confident it can be done.
