plates as a container
« on: April 26, 2008, 01:53:24 am »
How about a plate that is a container and then a person could put together their own dishes. Say you want to put carp and a joopiner berry sauce together for dish but it is not a recipe in the cookbook. Well if you have a container just for food, if that is even possible, you can put what you want on the plate and serve it too your friends. This will allow even more possibles, and that is saying something considering how much there is for cooking right now, and for cooks to express individual styles. Maybe one person always cooks with kikiri meat and no matter what the dish is (it could be ice cream) there is always some kikiri meat in it.  ;D This is a lot neater than just plopping food items all over a table, especially if you have multiple dinner guests.

I think that would run into the same problem as the glyph sacks, there is only one kind of portable container. I am all for this idea though because it might spur on the glyph sack problem. Unfortunately just because it looks different and has a different name doesn't mean it actually is different.

This does not mean it is not a good idea, just that some work is needed to get it working properly :).
Illysia: I suggest making a feature request on the bug tracker for a plate as a container, excepting only food. Who knows, there may be a dev getting bored with bigger bugs. Or someone else may have a look.

Well, sure. I did not mean to imply that was the only reason it was a good idea. Let us consider it in more depth!

Presumably you would want the contents of the plate to be reflected in its appearance on the table so that the meal's presentation could be appreciated. For example, if it was a ploughman's lunch you would have a couple slices of cheese and a loaf of french bread shown on the plate, if it were beef stroganoff you would have meat and noodles. It might take some doing.

It would be nice to see the items on the plate but that, I'm sure, would bog things down quite a bit. It would be nice just to have it as a regular container and then another person could right click and see the contents. Or maybe a base model for a plate with something on it and one that is empty so people can tell them apart.  :)

I like the base model idea. In fact, I like this idea in general, especially since my character is an aspiring chef. ^_^

Perhaps the same thing could be done with bowls? And as long as we're talking presentation, daintier cups (say, teacups, and maybe little cups for the child characters) would be nice, too.
