Do Kran need to drink?
« on: April 27, 2008, 07:03:50 pm »
I don't play my Kran often, however, recently the question - if Kran need to drink in order to survive - arose.

Kran can not be compared to any existing life form, thus a general answer like "every life form requires water" doesn't necessarily apply here.
I'm not searching for a scientifically provable answer but rather for one which sounds at least reasonable (it's about fantasy and imagination) and enables RPers to act their role as a Kran more believeable.

The results of my thoughts went into following direction which may, or may not be applicable:
Since Kran do eat Crystals, Coal, Sand and similar "Materials" they could easily stick in their throath - that is  - if their throaths aren't 100% dry, thus a form of liquid like water could help them swallow their meal.
Their stomaches digest the consumed "Food" by the use of strong acids, hence I think that water could be useful in case those acids get too strong, lest the Kran digest kraself.
Yet drinking too much water might dilute those acids, slowing the digestion down - or even preventing it from working temporarly.
Maybe a Kran who drinks too much will starve, yet if they don't drink plenty they could dissolve.

What do you think? And how much water do you think a Kran should need to regulate their acids? Or what other reasons do you think vaild to require Kran to drink or not to drink?

[ in case this got answered already somewhere on the forum, I am sorry - the search didn't really return anything of this sort. ]

Wow. I could never have come up with something like this. I stand in awe of your nitpicking ability.

I suppose the obvious answer would be that Kran don't need to drink because no one does - it's only a game. (From a certain point of view.) But that would take all the fun out of it.

The dilution idea was a good one, but to take that a step further a good-strength alkali might serve as the Kran's heartburn medicine. The only problem I can see with this is that salt might build up on the walls of the Kran's stomach, or rather, digestive cavity. Perhaps an issue for Kran doctors?

I think this one's beyond my meager scintific knowledge. Do we have a chemist in the house?

Krans do indeed drink water.

It's unstated how much they require.
