Proposal and RFC for [Guild] Yliakum Indigents Residence

I, Prolix Fanfaron, being of a well meaning (and somewhat unrealistic) nature, propose a Society for the succor of the needy. I wish to put together an organization to solicit donations in order to purchase and operate a building in which the indigent people of the realm have a place to lay their heads and receive a nutritious meal at least once per day. To that end we will need an Executive Director to oversee the day to day operations under the Board of Directors as well as a Fundraising Director to organize events and to raise the capital needed for the purchase of the lodging.

The  Board of Directors shall consist of six voting members plus the Chairman (me),  who will vote only to break ties, as well as a non-voting Secretary/Treasurer and shall meet at least once a month to take decisions. The executive director shall report directly to the board and the treasurer will disburse funds only as directed by the board.

[61 views and not one comment. How disappointing. Being ignored is much worse than being critically eviscerated as with the latter you can have a fine discussion on the merits. Sadly it looks like an idea whose time has not come. ]

Friends allow me to elaborate a little. It is my thought that the guild hall shall remain open at all times so that anyone can enter at will. Eventually as becomes possible I would want lock boxes for any person in need. The guild would be made up of the seven singular levels: Chairman and 6 board members, the two member level: Executive director and Secretary/Treasurer and the final level would be Volunteer having as many places as there are other members. Once a year there will be Board elections and every member will get a vote.

[There isn't much to comment about. I would say you have made a wooden frame but the stone structure has yet to be build. People like to live in stone structures more then in wooden frames

A bit more building would make people want to take a look at it. What you said above is something two drunken dwarves would have said in a tavern when they were bragging.

[There is really only one goal and that is to get me a free flop house. As chairman of the board it is my intention to do as little as possible and to draw the most benefit I am able. It will be the Secretary's responsibility to set up and maintain the guild page, should one be deemed necessary, the Treasurers responsibility to handle the money and the Fund-raising Director's responsibility to ensure the treasurer has money to handle. It would seem to have the side benefits of letting the good guilds salve their consciences by aiding the poor, and the naughty ones have a place to deal with their less reputable associates. With the right approaches funds could be garnered from role playing guilds across the spectrum. Of course this idea would require other guilds to step outside their narrow paths and be more thoughtful in the roles they play. Like it or not the largest part of the inhabitants are players and if guilds are only associating with themselves or one or two enemy/friend guilds they are missing the larger picture of society as a whole. Perhaps this is a misapprehension on my part but it is what guilds look like to me.]

Reading your first post, how on Yliakum were guilds supposed to know that their participation is required? Putting things nice and orderly would help a lot.

First stating the IC nature of the guild, how it wants to be seen.  blab bla bla, Hierarchy blabla, what's needed bla bla ect. But you could have figured that out by yourself. Probably putting that in the first post, because people read that to see what all the fuzz is about, it's that i was bored and read it else it wouldn't have gotten my attention. (You must be lucky )
Throwing an Idea as a rock into a crowd would only help raise  a few eye-brows, throwing it as a structure and you'll be a prophet (for awhile)

[well "solicit donations" does not specify from where but also does not exclude other guilds. Seeing as guilds are the ones likely to be able to donate amounts large enough to significantly help hall purchase it is logical to assume they were intended all along. Of course if any guild sees a property they prefer to the one they already own a guild hall donation would be accepted. Naturally one directorship would be set aside to the guild which donates a hall and it would have naming rights to the establishment as well.

This is not a guild creation promotional thread, it is pre-creation discussion thread to see if there is any support from the community for such a radical idea. I doubt there actually is but it is also an example of what I think an in context guild should be like. Perhaps it will give someone else an idea for an unusual guild that will succeed and then this thread will have succeeded.

Just think of all the Sheeple who need a place to sleep/be terrorized!

As with everything, it is the differences that count. Fund raising is respectable begging, the guild itself would be involved with the operation of the guild hall and allow members of other guilds to volunteer in the shelter although they would not be guild-member "Volunteers" and have no vote in guild matters]

Well, I know of a certain homeless young Ynnwn that would love a place to sleep without having to drop a handful of trias on an inn where every door constantly remains open, and would gladly donate once she's a little more affluent.
