Avoid accidental pickup of items.
« on: May 10, 2008, 12:05:42 pm »
Hey folks,

I'd like to be able to *lock* an item on the ground, i.e. prohibiting accidental pickup. (Of
course, un-locking should then also be possible.) This could maybe be implemented with
a simple dialogue bow: "Do you really want to pickup $target?"

Why? Because I just picked up my fully stocked kitchen shelves...again  X-/.

Best, Minks

It would seem to me that a better solution would be for furniture to have a switch to "mount" it on the floor, wall or wherever causing an error message such as "Dresser is bolted to the floor, you cannot pick it up." What you have described appears to require a yes/no answer from you every time.

Hmm, yes that sounds indeed more practical, Prolix.  :)

Items have a PICKUPABLE flag, which can be used for this, but there is no player command to set it. To be able to use it without problems, items should also have a flag that would say whether players are allowed to make it unPICKUPABLE, and if so, who will (owner, everyone).

If that flag is more than a binary yes/no (I am guessing it is not) it could have several states and not need a further flag. Would it be easier to change the data type or add a new column to the db entry?

Oh, yes, since I saw the pickup-able flag in action (thanks Rizin  :) ), I would love to
have a player command for it.

Allowing toggling the flag only for the owner would be nice, but how would we then
stop people from bolting their litter to the ground?  :o

Ensure the only place something can be bolted is in a guild house. Allow the lock pick skill to unsecure it. either/or.

Hmmm... I wouldn't want someone to lockpick my shelf away, though  :D
Making the pickupable-flag available in guildhouses would be a nice idea imho
