Failed to Load Effects!

After I choose my character and click the Join button It goes to start up the game and brings up an oval notice saying "Failed to Load Effects" and in the box behind it I see
"In Soviet ??
Kills you"

I too am getting the "Failed to Load Effects" error upon attempting to log in.

I'm using version 0.4.00 under SuSE 10.3., AMD X2 4800+, 2 Gb RAM w/ a 256Mb GeForce 6800. The 3-D Nvidia driver is current. Character creation went okay although I had a few graphics glitches that went away after I restarted. The updater seems to work fine, and says no updates are needed.

I have UDP port 7777 forwarded to my IP.

/servers.xml is

<serverlist>

    <server name="Fragnetics" ip="laanx.fragnetics.com" port="7777"  />

</serverlist>

My account is registered & verified. What am I doing wrong?

run pssetup and turn off preload models

Didn't work. I've run pssetup with just about every combination.. I have no idea what's wrong.

Thanks anyway. Maybe if I boot Windows and run it I'll get a different result; haven't tried that yet.
