Is everyone just too self-obsessed nowadays?

Feel free to drop me a /tell if I'm on when you are, name's Myshka in game.  My beginning experience was very different...  people were helpful to me from the start, and within a day or two I was pretty involved in RP.  Just bad luck, I guess.  :-/

Why do people go on about 'oh I am bored' or 'No one ever plays with me'... it is just so...   

What I will say is that I have tried new characters of different types now [apart from my three actual RP characters..] and have always found RP...   never been ignored when I start to speak or act with others.  I have only been 'bored' when I stand 'waiting' for someone else to start the work.

I have only had issues with a few being 'unfriendly' in the years I have played - but that is a sad fact of life - there will always be one who says nasty things just because they don't get what they want and when they want it.

The final thing I will say is that some might be 'causious' with strangers due to the worry of what the player behind the character's intentions are...   something we all are mindful of at varying degrees.

It is sad some find themselves so self convinced that there is a deminishing RP community just because players move on for what ever reason.  It is a fact of life - we all move on from things we used to do, for many different reasons that life throws at us - it does NOT mean it is a failing of those that are left behind.

I always am tempted to go up to someone and talk with them but I worry that they'll just tell me to leave them alone.

Like was said by Lolitra there are a few that will but it is either their IC attitude and you can roleplay with them around that or they really are jerks just dont' let a few bad responses deter you Many many people will talk to you and enjoy the experience.
And if they answer rudely don't take it personally because there are also a few NPC's that will tell you to shove off or leave them alone so understand that it is a large community and so like real life has the potential for every personality.

In general people in PS will respond well to RP. We'd be in serious trouble if the we didn't. The environment does help. People by the furnace, camping mobs or mining might ignore you but then there are places where people just chill out, like the taverns and such. Try there. I'm sure you'll see we can be very welcoming.

That being said .. do you feel lonely because everyone avoids you like you have the plague or do you feel lonely because you are too shy to make first contact? Or anything in between?

Don't have to answer, just think about where the real cause lies.

Well said Lolitra! In this very stament of yours I agree completely.

I didn't leave this community for a year because I didn't like the game, or the people leaving, or the rumor that RP was dieing, or the PlaneShift staff. I left because I have a family and my life does not revolve around a game. I just didn't have enough time to play. I could play all the time but that would be very unhealthy, and at one point I think I played to much. If you play the game constantly then of course you are going to get bored and possibly even move on, or worst yet stay around and become a whiner. All in all I love this place whether I have time for it or not. I love the community and the game. It is a shame that others let these negitive rumors and peoples negitive opinoins sway their own opinions and thoughts on the game and not actually open their eyes to the bigger picture.

The tavern is a great place to find RP as Colinb suggested.

Another suggestion I have is make a small RP. Perhaps you lost your familiar or he/she was stolen and you need help to find it. You could use the Hydlaa Plaza to find other players willing to help you find your pet. Maybe you could even reward them for finding your pet and bringing the evil doers to justice. (This is only a example) Another thing you can do is stand near a bigger crowd of people and listen into their RP. You might find just the right time to join in with your character if the RP interests you. I found that doing that always gave me more ideas on what I could do for a RP. 

  My adivce is to not wait around for RPer's to come to you, but for you to seek them out. This community is very friendly and rarely have I seen the players who think their "bleep" don't stink. Just strike up a conversation with some of the players. You might be surprised where they lead you in Rping.
