uhhh problem
« on: April 07, 2003, 02:47:11 am »
OK

I created my char, and got to the connect mini window (with the server name, my name, and my password) I click connect, and it say:

The server is not running or is not reachable. Please check the website or forums for more info.

I checked to see if the server was right, it was.  I checked the FAQ, and saw nothing that helped, and here I am, probably asking a question that has been asked far to many times.  Please, do me a favor, answer my question without giving me grief.  I also checked on the site to see if the server was online (it was).

I\'ve got Windows ME
My firewall is Norton Anti-Virus (with added parental control)
I think my video card is direct x, or vodoo (not sure which)
and all that other info that was asked for, I couldn\'t really tell you, cuase I\'ve got no Idea.

ALSO FYI: in the FAQ in this thread it says the server name is ps.gamiix.com, but that one really dosen\'t work, and the asian one is the one I\'ve got that message with (I suggest you change the FAQ)

First of all you should disable your firewall

Secondly use the asian server

Thirdly direct x isnt a video card  :D

Glad to help!

Yes, sorry about that. ps.gamiix.com is no longer valid. Will try to get the FAQ changed soon.  You should use planeshift.fragnetics.com as the server.

The firewall MAY cause some problems.  The server operaters on port 13331 so you may have to set up your firewall to allow UDP traffic through on that port.

If it is because of your firewall can you please let me know so we can add this to our list of possible problems?

Those are the two main reason why I would think you would get the \"The server is not running or is not reachable\" message.  Either that you just caught the server as it was trying to initialize itself.  Your graphics card should not be related to this.

Thanks,

I\'m an idiot when It comes to my own pc  :O

I\'ll try getting my firewall to cooperate, I did try connecting when my firewall was down (didn\'t work obviously), but it also might be the parental control (I don\'t know how to turn that off)

hey,

if you\'re running a firewall try to deactivate it, to see if thats the problem. Maybe your rules are too restricted.
I\'m not sure about which ports psclient needs, but the serverport (13331 UDP) is not it.

My client does something on port 32792 UDP, but its only sending I guess, since the port is masqued on the router and not visible to the world.

(Maybe offtopic, but it isn\'t a problem do deactivate Norton Antivirus on ME (even with parental control), isn\'t it ?

Perhaps looking in the PSCLIENT.txt File helps in the last few lines should be written something like:
Total bytes sent out was 1184.
Total bytes received was 0.
If it says \"Total bytes received was 0.\" it is caused by a programm blocking incomming packages (firewall, etc.). If it says something else please post the last 12 lines with text from the file here.
