Brand new (almost) to PlaneShift, and it looks very good.

Hello everyone!
I shall be, in a week or so, playing PlaneShift. I've read the website through a few times and it sounds like a very good game, especially the focus on roleplaying. There are unfortunately far too many online 'RPG's that don't focus on roleplaying, making them all seem alike and boring. I'm certainly glad to find one that does focus on one it, for a change.
I would be playing now, but ATI dropped support for my graphics card in the Linux drivers as it is fairly old, and the open-source drivers don't really work any better than the generic vesa driver. When my GCSEs are over I shall be getting a new laptop as a reward for doing my best from my dad, which has a well-supported card (Radeon HD2600). So I'll spend a lot of my time until then reading through this forum getting an idea of what the RP is like in-game, as there is no better way to proclaim to the world you are a new player than by doing something completely wrong.

I'm using the time before I get a new laptop to think up a good background and personality for this character. I'm currently thinking along the lines of a small-time greedy thief who turned to stealing because he was excluded by everyone in his childhood, with possibly a dysfunctional family who never cared for him.
If anyone is interested, I shall be getting this laptop and putting Arch linux on it.

Welcome to the PS community! I play Monala and Asailie, and the occasional useless alt to back my plotlines up.

Atra sounds alright, but may be taken or possibly the server won't accept it. ^^;

Miguel: You can steal in game, but it takes some co-operation, since mechanics doesn't support pickpocketting at the moment. If you were to OOC'ly /tell someone, "[My character's gonna try to pickpocket yours]", however, you might get a decent IC response to that.

Hm, that's the third or fourth theif character I've heard of. This might just become the hottest thing since the black hooded cloak.

The server may take a few days to come back up, what with the new release and all. It was up for about ten seconds earlier, but I haven't seen the status change back to "wait" since (and I've been checking in on me laptop all afternoon ^^; )

its turned to wait two or three times, but only those 10 secs has it actually been on. looks like it'll be a bit before its stable enough to play...

how long does it usually take for the server to be stable after updates?

mm...after it comes up, not too long. its only been an hour or two since its come up, I think. It should be up tomorrow, unless some other problems come along. I dont believe its ever been down longer than a week, including the update itself.

i downloaded it yesterday while it was working but the website to register wasnt working so i couldnt play
nd then this morning when it let me register i couldnt play
nd then i had to do the update, and since im on a mac i had to download a new client cuz the updater doesnt work on mac
but now im completely ready, nd its been torture to read all the history and the races about the game and not being able to play

hehe. ya, the games awesome.

keep in mind that theres gonna be some unbalance and unimplemented stuff though. the games still in development. Once you get past that though, what you *can* do is quite fun.
