VERY SCARED!
« on: April 08, 2003, 12:58:46 am »
OK, here\'s the deal, I made a character in Planeshift right? And when I try to connect, it gets stuck at the screen \"Initializing World\" It says something about how \"Explorer.exe\" has crashed and \"You must reinstall Windows\" I was like WHAT?!?!?! So I shut down the computer, and when i booted it up again, it was alright *PHEW!* But guess what? I had the courage to try it again. Guess what happened. It did it again! I\'m not really worried anymore but I want to know if you have any solutions. Thanx! ;(

Since I have not experienced this myself and you appear to be the only one that has this problem, there isn\'t really much advice I can offer at this point.

I\'m not sure how Explorer.exe can get involved so I\'m afraid I\'m stumped on this one for the moment.

Actually, you are not alone, i had a very similar problem when i made my character. When i logged in and it got the \'initializing world\' thing, the program just crashed (no message about explorer though). I have a P900 with 256 ram so don\'t think it is my computer but i don\'t know. Any help about what is going on would be great.

Assassin, your problem is different and is addressed in numerous threads in Newbie Help, Technical Help, and MolecularBlue Bugs.  When you said it crashed, do you mean it actually crashed or it just froze?  If it froze, then you may not have a problem, it is supposed to do that; it really is initializing world. If it crashed, look around the forum and read up on what other people said.

goldenkirby, \'explorer.exe\' is the main part of windows. Reinstalling Windows might very well solve your problem, and it will only take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

I\'ve actually heard from about 7 or 8 people in IRC come to me with this problem.  Obviously I dont feel as bad about not being able to help, considering their is no solution.  But It sounds like it is a semi-common occurance.

Don\'t install PS until after you have verified the MD5 checksums from the main planeshift.it website, if you got the download from anywhere but there.

You might get viruses or worse if you install ANY software from an untrusted source.

I had the same exact problem as goldenkirby. I just rebooted my computer and tried out the new username. It seems that the client submits the data OK, but then it crashes when it closes some loop (Those Dev\'s use higher end machines than 98\'s, so they dont have these spiffy problems!)

Well anyway afterwards I am now having the problem where a DLL is messing up, hence the following:

PSCLIENT caused an invalid page fault in
module ATIO9XXX.DLL at 0197:6901dc42.

Uhmm...related or not?

P.S. ATIO9XXX.DLL... Whats with the XXX? Dev\'s into p*rn0? lmfao!!!
