Is there anything definitive on... herbs?

Hello everybody!

I just made a new character - wanted to try the crystal/herbalist healer. Now I'm reading that herbs do appear in the game, but nobody has said anything definitive on whether they can actually be used. So - any help? Can I play my herbalist character (I mean from the engine side, I know that I can RP him )? If not, any Idea when this might get implemented? I'm not asking months (I know that's hard to answer), but... is it anywhere in the upper parts of the todo list?

Herbalism is not yet in play as far as I can tell, most of the herb type items that can be picked up sell to merchants who buy raw material, as is. Some are used in cooking and do not sell at all unless as a final product. *Note to self make bug report. There are no tools yet for herbalism or alchemy although the herbs descriptions do indicate some of for what they are used. I do not think you will get a better estimate than "sometime in the next year or two" as the development team has a lot on their plates and do not want to be tied into a strict time frame. Even if it seems to them it is nearly ready to be released there is always the possibility it will stall for one reason or another.

Short answer: probably not.

I have an herbalist character as well, and no, as far as I know it's not implemented.   Don't let that discourage you, though!  I did a little research into herbal medicine so that I could sound vaguely believable, and I've had really fun rp just winging it.   

Also, if you know what you're doing, you can make a pretty hefty sum of money just walking from one city to another, with all those lovely free goodies to be picked and sold.

According to heaps of several hundred "Dash of Saffron" being thrown away into the landscape out of frustration, I can understand that a few players wish they were able to sell away such (currently "useless" - quoted!) items. I wonder if it may become possible at least to combine some amount of them to a "(Sack of) Saffron" again. But at the moment it seems that merchants don't like people selling back used food, for realism's sake.

So until further notice - go to the Screaming Face, if you don't see any use for hundreds of not yet usable food items, and deposit them inside the mouth. That's what this structure is officially made for.

Are we not supposed to burn them to ash in the furnaces anymore?   Because I admit I would be kind of deeply unthrilled about having to hike all the way to the Screaming Face from Ojaveda, just to dump food items.

Burning may work as well. Although I am not sure if everything will burn down correctly, I remember that some things did not vanish.

Some things require fiddling with in the kitchen before they're reduced down to a burnable object.  One does earn experience even when purposely burning or gunking or making sludge soup, though, so it's worth the effort.  I've gotten into the habit of picking up abandoned food objects, mining some experience out of them, and then disposing of them properly in the furnace.
