[Original] Getting the updater working.
« on: June 29, 2008, 09:29:16 pm »
The updater shipped in the 0.4.01 release was a little broken unfortunately. We've quickly resolved the problem however;

1) If you're still running 0.4.00 or you have the 0.4.00 installer, you should be able to update from 0.4.00 to 0.4.01 with no problems.

2) If you don't fall into the above category then you will need to download and extract the updater into your planeshift folder, and then run the updater.

Also want to thank you all for working so much, can't wait to see the new upgrades.

I had no luck, however, getting the updater to run. I've been running 4.0 for a while, and my updaterinfo.xml didn't even have a first line with true or false. I ended up (just now) downloading 4.0.1 instead of dealing with the updater. THAT contains the "false" in the first line, which I've changed to true, although I'm guessing I don't have to worry about that, and it seems to work fine.

I'm hoping that bypassing the updater and performing a reinstall won't affect my character. Guess I'll find out when I have the time to get back in.

Hi guys...  first off thanks for taking care of us Mac folks  \\o//

However, I could not get the new updater to work as suggested above...  (the application does not respond)

I downloaded and installed 4.01 from the location specified in the XML file (thanks for the bandwidth Xordan).  But when I launch the 4.01 client it does not load all the way!  (In non-technical terms, the progress bar stops somewhere near in the middle and doesn't move any further)

The Error log has this to say:

Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, <src/client/clientcachemanager.cpp:68 LoadNewFactory SEVERE>
Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, Couldn't parse file /planeshift/shields/spiked_shield_04a.spr

Mon Jun 30 08:27:15 2008, Error reading end tag. (in: line 405:5; meshfact -> params)

These are my computer specs:

Computer type: MacBook
Mac OS Version: 10.4.11
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 2GB 667Ghz DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card: Intel GMA 950

Thanks for all your hard work!  Can't wait to start playing again...

Thanks Caarrie!  I also missed/didn't understand this step until now (for us non-technical people):

Find and open in TextEdit:
updaterinfo.xml

Change this:
<config active="false">

To this:
<config active="true">

Run updater again...  Launch 4.01 Client!

See ya'll in 4.01

Go into the Read me and do all that is instructed to be done. You will be able to start your PSsetup after that.
At least it worked for me.
The Updater had no problems after that also.

Good luck  :)
Have loads of fun with Planeshift!

ok... followed all the instructions above and thought the updater wasn't working - the icon for the updater appeared in the dock but I couldn't see anything was happening. I think what threw me was a lack of a progress window like most would probably expect when updating an app. I saw a new macosx_4.0.1.zip (or something similar to that) file go in the PlaneShift folder after running the psupdater (with the modified updaterinfo.xml as mentioned above) - it was only until I clicked the zip file again and saw that the size of it had increased that I realized what it was doing...  ::)

also, opening the console app (Applications/Utilities/Console) helped me to see what was being updated (maui's post got me onto that one).

Not working.

I downloaded the newest version (4.01), replaced the patcher that was in the folder with the one you have posted in this thread, and changed the "false" setting to "true".

I ran the updater.

While the updater was running, a bunch of new thingies appeared in my PlaneShift folder:

The patcher kept bouncing for a bit, but I didn't see any windows open or anything - though, I did see the spinning beachball cursor for a few seconds.

After the patcher closed (still no windows or anything, just an abrupt end), those extra icons disappeared.

I checked my updaterinfo.xml file - the contents changed to the kind that does NOT have the "false" or "true" bit at the top.

Double-clicking on the updater now causes it to appear on the dock for a quarter of a second and then disappear.
