Bug in installation
« on: June 30, 2008, 05:41:22 am »
Upon attempting to launch Plainshift after installation of the new version I am given the followinf error message...
"This application has failed to start because OpenAL32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."...
I have uninstalled and re-installed Planeshift multiple times and still continue to recieve the error message...any advice?

I was having the same issue then I downloaded the missing .dll file. Now I get a new issue. "The Procedure entry point alcGetString could not be located in the dynamic link library OpenAL32.dll .   I am usually pretty good at figuring out things like this myself but since this seems to be a dead end I have no clue what to do.

Sounds like now the dll is not the version the game expects. Use the updater to hopefully correct the problem. You may have to check some of the recent posts on the updater first.

My updater automatically says the following:

"PlaneShift Version 5 for win32.

Checking for updates:
This updaterinfo.xml file is marked as unactive and will not work. Please get another one.

Updater finished, press enter to exit."

How can I change the "updaterinfo.xml file?"

You can open updaterinfo.xml with every texteditor, notepad or wordpad for example.
No need to open the .dll at all, just download it and put it inside your PS directory. (or was it /libs?)

I added the .dll and modified the updaterinfo.xml file and now my updater is running smoothly....I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best...
