Planeshift wont even start up!

My PS client wont even start up!   
It says:                   This application has failed to start because OpenAL32.dll could not be found.Re-installing the  application may fix this problem.

I have re-installed it and it still doesn't want to work.
Can someone help me...

just run the updater the dll is there. you DO NOT need to search other places to find it

Hey i downloaded the OpenAL32.dll and placed it in the directory and tried again and it still didnt work.
I tried to use my updater and it said :       Planeshift Updater Version 5 for win32.
                                                          Checking for updates:
                                                                                          This updaterinfo.xml file is marked as inactive and will not work. Please get another one.

I'm going insane here with this problem.

Hey Trakai, don't worry, things are always a little insane after an update. 

Your updater doesn't work, because there's a small mistake in the updater.xml,

im haveing almost the same problem only mine says this application has failed to launch becuase the application configuration is incorrect. I know very little about computers and need some help fixing it any ideas?

Theive, We really need some more info to try and help you.

Could you tell us your OS, what program is actually crashing, if you have run the updater (after following instructions here:
http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32812.msg378346 ) and if you have version 0.4.01 or version 0.4.00.

I am having the same issue as Theive.

I have an XP system with an ATI 9200 Graphics card.

I had version 0.4.00 installed and it ran perfect. I then completely uninstalled 0.4.00 version. Then I downloaded the new Version 0.4.01 from the torrent and installed it. I tried to run the game, i got the error Theive did. I tried to run the updater and same error. Then i read to change the updaterinfo.xml file and did that. Tried to run the updater again and same error. Saved the link of the whole new xml file and tried to run the updater again and same error.

Then i installed the 0.4.00 version again and it ran and its updater ran. I then reinstalled the 0.4.01 version without uninstalling the 0.4.00 version and still got the same error. Then i uninstalld both versions completely, installed 0.4.00, ran the updater, started the game, exited the game, unistalled 0.4.00 version, deleted the file in the programs folder, then installed 0.4.01 version and got the same errors.

One thing that i have noticed is that when i reinstalled the old 0.4.00 version, when i ran the game and the setup all my setup features were still there and my username and password was still there even after i thought i completely uninstalled the game.  Is there some hidden registry keys that must be deleted?  I have also restarted everytime i thought i completly uninstalled the game.

Still haven't got pssetup, updater or client working.  I was reading the updaterinfo.xml files between the 0.4.00, 0.4.01, and Xordan's file in the Updater post. I noticed that Xordan's file doesn't have "version name 0.4.01" it has 0.4.00.1   

Could be a bug but it seems odd that the 0.4.00 version has "version 0.4.00"  and the original 0.4.01 version has a "Version name 0.4.01" and Xordan's file doesn't have a "Version name 0.4.01"

That should be because your personal configuration etc. is not saved in the program folder, but as application data in a windows folder. Most software only removes the "software" automatically, not the user files. Same with PS.

Btw... your bug sounds familiar. When I tried to update on sunday I ran into serious trouble as well and I think my error message could have been the same, just in a different language. ;-) Have you checked what version you get when you run the updater of 0.4? As you wrote that it worked, it should have updated you to 0.4.01.

I somehow worked my way through installing the 0.4.01 package over 0.4 - the updater didn't work at first but did after I replaced the xml file with the one from 0.4. So after getting the updater running it downloaded a lot more files. Then had to find that OpenAL32.dll (which at that time hadn't come through the updater but does now) and but I could start up the game afterwards (couldn't log on yet though as then the server was down and haven't been on that PC since).

I reinstalled the 0.4.00 version and then ran the updater.  I still got the 0.4.00 version client. I then replaced the updaterinfo.xml file with the corrected one from 0.4.01 and also tried with the one from the Updater post. From the two latter tries i get the message "No mirrors are available. Please try some other time....."   

So either the mirrors are down or the file isn't working that way.

Then I installed 0.4.00 version and then without unistalling that version intalled 0.4.01 version in the same directory and to no avail. 

I will go to my neighbors tomarrow and download the not torrent version on his high speed internet and try that. (I only have dial-up )

No matter what i try, clean install, updater, install over old client etc, no luck, i just get this same error message stating "The application has failed to launch becuase the application configuration is incorrect". I've read and tried all the fixes listed too with no success.

And i get the same message if i run the 4.01 updater. If i install 4.00 again then run the updater, it installs something for a second or 2, but does not update to 4.01.

I've spoken to a couple of friends who have managed to install no problem, but they are running the linux client. I am running windows xp, and i downloaded using bittorrent, as the direct links have not been updated as yet.

Anyone using windows actually managed to install yet?

Yes, I am running windows and updated fine on release day, I used my 0.4.00 client I had installed and ran the updater to get 0.4.01. Could you please follow these instructions:

To make this a fair test, please use a 0.4.00 client.

Go to Run on the start menu.

Copy and paste this command (including quotes):

"c:\program files\planeshift steel blue\psupdater.exe" CheckIntegrity

Press ENTER. 

If it asks if you would like to download anything, press Y.

Hopefully this will work for you, The command assumes you have PS installed in the default location in Windows, if you dont you will need to edit the command or run in a terminal (depends on your OS and personal choice at install time)

I gave your suggestion a try,  i removed all traces of previous PS instalations and then installed a clean version of 0.4.00. Then i ran the command you suggested and it updated something for maybe 10 seconds.

I then started the game up, but the client is still 0.4.00, not updated to new 0.4.01.
