Hm, I've run into the same problem trying to upgrade my notebook running on XP. Tried what you supposed but the result was the same I had before. The updater started and downloaded an update for itself. I now have 2 new files (psupdater2.exe and psupdaterwin32.zip containing psupdater.exe) and a changed updaterinfo.xml

psupdater.exe has not been changed, running it again only repeats the above action. psupdater2.exe will not work because the configuration is wrong (windows system message).

I tried installing the 0.4.01 in full both on blank and over 0.4 as well but whenever I then try to start either the program, the setup or the updater I get the wrong configuration message again.

Also tried to copy the whole ps-folder from an updated system (it updated on my PC) but still get the message about the wrong program-configuration on the notebook. I'd give you the complete system message but it's in German, don't know if you'd understand it.

Any idea why?

Luzino, try going to your Application data folder, that PS config files are now stored, on that system that does work, it should reside:

C:\Documents and Settings\[Windows_Logon_Name]\Application Data\PlaneShift

by default, but presumably in german ;o)

Copy everything in that directory to the equivalent place on your laptop and see if it will run please.

Sorry, no change. Neither made the updater of 0.4 work nor did it make the copied 0.4.01 version work. I still get that wrong configuration message.

Update::

I noticed that when i installed the 0.4.00 version and ran the updater I got the psupdaterwin32.zip file and psupdater2.exe file

I then ran the updater again and it said the mirror was down and to try some time later.

Then i noticed my log file stating this::

Checking for updates to the updater: Update Available!
Beginning self update!
md5sum of updater zip does not match correct md5sum!!
Checking for updates to the updater: Update Available!
Beginning self update!
Checking for updates to the updater: Update Available!
Beginning self update!

I have no idea what this means but could possibly lead to a solution in the future.

the psupdater2.exe file will not run, it gives the same error as the rest, "This applicatoin has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

and the psupdater.exe file that is in the psupdaterwin32.zip file gives the same error if you replace it with the original psupdater.exe file.

The second PSupdater gives me the same error too. The client will start and so will the original psupdater, but they are still the 0.400, even after update.

I tried again to do an install over 0.4.00 to 0.4.01, and also a clean install of the 0.4.01, but no matter what way i do it, i get this configuration error message.

Tried this too, still nothing.

There is a short message when i run the updater, but it dissapears so fast i don't get to read it all.

I'll try again... see if i can catch what it says this time.

I have sucsessfully installed version 0.4.01 and ran the updater, but when I try to start psclient (or setup) absoluteley nothing happens. I don't even get an error message. (I started from console too, nothing there). I have uninstalled (deleted the folder too) and then made a completely new install, still nothing.

I use WinXP Home (32Bit), P4, Geforce 7950 GT, 1,5 GB RAM, if that is important.

Did I miss something? Do I have to make any manual changes? Maybe some remains from an earlier installation somewhere?

i tried that file 2. i even tried couple combinations of this one with the one from 0.4
edit: i mean combining the content. for example adding entry about 0.4.00.1 client to the xml from 0.4.00

i have no idea what could be causing the problem. I'm running windows XP SP2. My pc is Sempron 2200 with Geforce 5500 (256MB video ram) and 512 MB ram.

edit2: i noticed that even when i run updater without -auto parameter its in text mode.

there is no -auto mode as the NEW updater has no gui

tried downloading 4.00 and 4.00.1 from different mirrors but that didnt changed a thing.

4.00 -> wont update to 4.00.1 just downloads a new updater which fails to run. then the old updater shows message about no active mirrors

4.00.1 -> updater,client and setup fails to run even with a correct active xml file.

edit: tried with firewall turned off but no effect
