Planeshift wont even start up!

I'm no further forward either. Same trouble as many here, the updater on 0.4.00 only downloads a new updater exe which won't run. Installing the new 0.4.01 client just results in an psclient and psupdate.exe refusing to even run, giving the same old configuration error message mentioned previously.

Anything official on this before i give up playing for a while?

how did you install the .4.01 client?

that is, did you do a fresh install, making sure all files and folders were removed from the previous version before hand, or did you try to install over top?

my problem is that the mac version I got wont run. I might have the wrong system. I run mac v10.5.4 and that wasnt in the list so I got the mac 10.3 i think it was. Is there a verion for leopard?

dont get the 10.3.9 client that is only for 10.3.9

I have tried all ways : Updating from 0.4.00, installing 0.4.01 over 0.4.00 and finally a clean install of 0.4.01.

I've been trying to do this since the client came out, so i've spent a few hours on this. I've even gone as far is re-installing windows to see if it cured the problems.

I can confirm that I'm having exactly the same problem here, in my windows xp.

I tried installing PlaneShift new client 0.4.01 on a clean Windows XP Pro SP1 install. Running the client, setup or updater failed. I fixed this by installing "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 sp1 redistributable 8.0.50727.762" (download here http://download.chip.eu/en/Microsoft-Visual-C-2005-sp1-redistributable-8.0.50727.762_1295945.html).

I have had same errors stated above.  I found this link and installed this file and the updater and client run now.  TY Burkin!!!

I got an email from one of my own guildmembers Nilotha Nyathosa with this link for Windows:

After installing the setup.exe worked, then i ran the update, and then the client started!!!!

I tried the OpenAL32.dll from a couple of download sites - the only one that fixed the updater issue for me was from this one.

Erm, if you do the changing of the first line in the Updater XML to true, then you shouldn't be having problems running the updater, which in turn will perform the OpenAL32.dll download....
