hmm... weird, i'm no canadien but i always thought they were a french possesion not english, just because many speak french though.  no history behind that misconception i guess.

they were never under french control, the country
the french had control of new france, which went from quebec all the way down to louisiana
but they sold it cuz theyre civil war back in france didnt leave them with enough resources to control that area

Kind of.  France owned Quebec for a while and then the English took it from them in an awesome offensive (after a few failed attempts), after they lost Quebec city it was basically over and Canada was under british countrol.  The Louisiana purchase (named after a French King ) did not include Quebec.

The States owe more to France than Canada does.  We just have a large amount of families left over from when the French owned Quebec.

We definitely didn't invent the apple pie     The hamburger is American, despite the German sounding name.

Americans invented bottled soft drinks!  (Although I think the actual carbonation process was invented by the British?)

The hamburger is actually a German invention, originally called hamburger steak. After the recipe arrived in the US through German immigrants, the Americans just flattened it a bit more and put it between bread and called it their invention. Also, soft drinks were invented by the Arabs and the British.

But, you do have dibbs on turkeys, as that animal is native to your continent. However, the first people to arrive in the Americas were the vikings and they may have eaten some turkeys, so even this can be debated (Then again, the natives were even firster)

But now, to Canada! The land of craft dinner and internet monies.

Canada Day used to be Dominion Day and is the anniversary of the day that Queen Victoria signed the British North America Act giving us local rule. It was still theoretically under the dominion of the queen and rightfully speaking a Dominion of Great Britain until the 1982 when Pierre Trudeau got Queen Elizabeth to give us control of our Constitution.

Basically it is the day when the government spends our bread to give us circuses. Marie Antoinette would be proud.
