Game bugs
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:14:48 pm »
There seems to be some kind of indexing error tracking the current player (i.e., my character) while playing.

1) While moving around I get random flashes of a different player, as if I'm constantly being followed.

2) My client crashed at one point while I was near the Tavern in Hydlaa; i had not been out of town at
any point.  When I logged back in I was on the upper floor of the magic shop.

3) I followed the road from the magic shop away from Hydlaa until I reached the next zone.  While standing
still I typed a series of /pos commands a few seconds apart.  I got multiple reports as to my current location.
The first showed me in hydlaa_plaza, the next two in bdroad1, the third in kor02 and the fifth in bdroad2.

4) Objects can't seem to be picked up (the response is that they're too far away).  If the server is randomly
jumbling my character index (ass seems to be the case in 3 above) then this would make sense.

Apparently my avatar doesn't know who he is most of the time.

Cheers!

You guys may have already figured this out, but just in case, wanted to post a quick note.  I wasn't sure if Caarrie's last comment was a resolution on flyspray, but seems to me all the dwarves are somehow being linked, which may be Duhh by now, but made sense as I was thinking about it and would rather post something and be wrong than remain quiet and possibly help.

Seems like dwarves are being linked, no unique identifier in DB maybe?  It may happen when a dwarf first logs in.  When I first logged in, my guild mate saw me as the ghost image.  This was my first impression too when I noticed it.  I also saw the other dwarfs movements sometimes, even saw them /die in one case.  I was thinking something to do with unique identifiers or some sort of mapping in the DB, but you guys would know best.  Just thought I'd throw it out there, just in case it helps.

I don't think it is random, I think it is whoever moved last or logged in last, and that triggers all dwarfs to be in that position on the map on the server, until their client reregisters their /pos, and server tries to compensate.  I think last dwarf logged in may make more sense.  Explains ghosting because of lag between the reregistering and the mining, trading, interaction issues, etc.

I'm on Linux 64 bit version, btw.
Good luck!

Woooord. I vote this the most interesting bug I've seen so far! Not counting the character tilting due to bounding box not set in DB correctly. Gotta get me a dwarf character asap!!! :D

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.

It is pretty cool, I think all dwarves logged in should meet in one place and overlap on top of one another to test it out.  If they can all act fine together, mine, trade, talk to NPCs, then they can form an ultra dwarf.  If they are all linked to the last dwarf logged in, then they will have to do that dwarf's bidding!
