Access Violation Error Upon Start Up
« on: July 05, 2008, 11:40:57 pm »
Hi, I just downloaded the game. Had the classic starting problem so I googled it.
Fixed the updater file, ran that, and then started the client.

My friend sitting right next to me did the same and the game started fine for her (she is currently making her character).
However I get this:

Exception_Access_Violation at 78578C45
I saved the diagnostic, so if that is needed, I can email it to someone.
Thanks in advance.

If it helps me and my friend are both playing on the same network.
My operating system is XP.

in your ps install folder open psclient.cfg with a text editor

find the line
Code: [Select]
; ******************
; * Part 3: Game   *
; ******************

after that add
Code: [Select]
PlaneShift.UserConfigPath = /path/to/another/folder
and put in another folder that you want your ps files stored in in that path it could be in My Documents or your ps folder. This may or may not help your problem.

save the file DO NOT EDIT ANYTHING ELSE IN THE FILE. and then launch ps.

Hi,
I am getting the same problem.  The above fix did not work for me.  It seems that when my character leaves the zone the character started in (i.e. move into the next zone), If I log off in the second zone, I can no longer load the game because of the exception access violation.  It seems that the problem follows all characters that start in the same place as the character that got stuck.  In other words, i cannot load the game using any character.  This behavior first occurred after leaving the tutorial.

there is no known fix to this issue, you will have to wait for a dev to look into the issue.

This makes the last bug look tame...I am rolling on the floor laughing.
ok, so in addition to the access violation when trying to load characters, I am also getting a similar error when the game loads (i.e. before the login screen). Sometimes it happens, and sometimes not.  Also, and this got me rolling, the ps setup utility creates a pssetup cfg file in my user application data file folder.  This causes ps setup to crash on next use. The utility works again after deleting the pssetup cfg file from \Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data.
Dude...this game rocks .  I  ferreting out bugs.  Fortunately, this game contains a cornucopia of bugs.  Will someone wish me "Happy Hunting?"

I wish you happy hunting :). If you find a bug that you can reproduce, or have at least a hint what causes it to happen, please report it on the bug tracker.
