updater problem
« on: July 07, 2008, 11:50:57 pm »
I downloaded game last night, and tried to update today.
update said it was old, and after poking thru forum i found the link to change xml file and got updater to run
but now when running the updater i get the download but it fails to update
gives me errors like   :
failed to remove file blahblahblah
and
INVALID target window checksum mismatch
failed!!

Before i ran the updater the game worked, after i ran it, i get  screen with all the login words on it, but a black background instead of pictures
and no cursor to login so i cannot start the game

I am running Vista, 256mg video card, dual 1.6 cpu
I have updater version 5 for win32

please help!!

In vista make sure that when you're launching the updater, you right click on the executable and click 'Run as Administrator'.

Also for the graphics part, you may need to update your graphics card's drivers. Do this my going

Control Panel -> System and Maintenence -> Device Manager -> Then select your graphics card and click the small picture at the top with the green arrow that says "Update Driver" when you hover.

I am running it as administrator.

I dont think its a graphics driver problem, the game WORKED FINE until I tried running the UPDATER.
Do I need to run the updater in order to play?

I have this problem too and I run XP. It's been updating for the past two hours and it's not like I have a slow connection or anything.

actually, version 4.0.1.0 works fine without updating, EXCEPT certain bugs like not being able to goto bronze doors :(. i cannot update the client but i can play in most areas(crashes do happen ever so often for no reason, from client closing without warning, to virtual function calls and others) but it does work  :whistling: so either get to play with a few issues, or not at all. If the server forced versions past 4.0.1.0 to play i wouldn't be able to play at all.
if you say its impossible, I\'ve already done it!

I am having a similar problem, I have Vista and when I attempt to run the updater it informs me that it is disabled. I have read several posts regarding the changing of 'false' to 'true' within the .xml file 'Updaterinfo' but when I do so, and attempt to save the file, it will not allow me do this, rather it says that it cannot create the file and tells me to check to make sure that I have the 'path and file name' correct. It seems it will not overwrite the original updaterinfo file.. I have no idea how to make it accept the overwriting of the file though. Is there any way round this?
