Cant fight, and cant do quests. And Im not allowed to report the problem.

So I just started. I went through the tutorial yesterday, and I couldn't attack the rat. So i had to use the 'skip this step' option.
Now today, I still cant attack anything. This is over 24 hours later. I read about the npcclient thing. How long does this usually take?
Anyway I read the story. Read a bunch in the forums. read about the races. Ran around aimlessly just looking at polygons. And I'm getting kind of bored.
So i am trying some quests. But these npc's.. sigh.

Right now I'm trying to get a filleting knife for, Burdess Quirain. (No I'm not asking for walkthrus/answers/etc.)
But the npcs just don't seem to know wtf a knife is. They dont seem to know anything about anything.
I would send a message to "Jeraphon" as requested in this thread.
But it seems I am not allowed to send messages. So what am I supposed to do?
If i ask about it here. Well, I'm not really allowed to do that either.
I would ask in the game using the 'help' tab, but i've already had to do that 2 times now, for the attacking npc's thing, and once in the tutorial. I don't want to keep relying on that for every single thing I do in the game.
I'm sorry if you consider this a spoiler or whatever. But ffs. Its been 2 freaken days and I still cant do anything in this game.

And this npc has 0 knives for sale. The only category in the merchant window is 'food'.

OK, first let me appologise for you starting to play at a very bad time. A new release was made recently and some bugs are still being worked out of the system. The NPCclient normally starts working again after a server crash but the server has been pretty stable recently..

About questing, keep what you say really simple. Instead of "Do you have any ********" try "About *******".

As for the specific quest problem, the NPC has offered to sell you what you need for 50 tria, all you have to do is open the exchange window (with right click and choosing the correct Icon) then put the money in the slot and click trade. If you have no money, just ask someone politely and in character to lend you a little. RP it, be nice, and tell them you will repay their gratitude.

tyvm. I suppose that was pretty simple. I just never would have thought to take a leap of faith like that and hand over money to an npc without some obvious exchange window, or whatever.

You will find that the two things in Planeshift that can be most frustrating are NPCs and PCs ;o)

I am glad to say that NPC dialogue has got -signifigantly- better than it was when I first started playing the game, with many more trigger phrases being added to each step in quests which makes life much easier and helps reduce (but not eradicate) the "Guess the phrase" game.

As a general rule an NPC will tell you verbatim what they want you to do, eg "Go to harnquist and tell him I need *******" would mean you go to Harnquist and say "Pizik needs *******".

As for trading with the NPCs, they wont steal your tria, they will only accept a trade if it is required to progress  a quest you are on ;o)

Don't worry, 5 more posts and you'll be able to PM people. Security measures that had to be put in place as someone thought it would be fun long ago to create multiple new accounts and spam the entire community through PM with, to put it in a nice way, were things that were definitely not work safe.
