Failed to load effects?
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:43:54 pm »
Okay I have another problem. I've updated my client and everything so I try to start it. Then the message "Failed to load effects" comes up. Then when you click ok the game just exits. I already searched for this and it gave me this link

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32815.msg378359;topicseen#msg378359

problem is the flame.spr is flame.dds on my file. I tried changing it to flame.part but it didn't work, i still got the same message so I changed it back. I tried running the updater but it says that there are no updates available. And now i'm stuck..  :(

Any suggestions guys?? I really wanna try this game.

Thanks in advance!
I sit still, yet I am moving from place to place

Try to download
http://www.xordan.com/updaterinfo.xml
And try to update again. It helped me. Well, it actually took few times to do it...

Has anyone resolved this issue? I am really frustratred now. I am going in circles and apparently missing something.

stats:
Windows vista
Processor: AMD 64x2/dual core processor 6000+ 3.00GHz
memory(RAM) 4.00GB
System type 32-bit
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
driver version 7.15.11.7519

problem:
When running updater: no active mirrors found

sometimes it updates some, but not completely

regardless, when I launch the game I get the failed to load effects error

What I have tried:
-changed false to true in the updater info
-downloaded the suggested updater--again-- and replaced the one that came with client.
-downloaded and installed client 04.01 (several times)
-uninstalled 04.01 (several times)
-installed client 04.00 (several times)
-ran updater MANY times
-checked (again) to make sure video driver is up to date
-changed settings various ways (several times)
-I do not see a flame.spr to change to flame.part
-tried check inregrety but windows can't find file (several times)
-I do run as administrator

Nothing has made a difference. I was able to play before the last update. I enjoyed this game a lot. Now, I am wondering if it is going to be unplayable for me.
Can anyone help me??

Thanks,

The updater still doesnt find active mirrors and it says the md5sum is wrong.

However, I can launch the game now and play!!! Yeah!!

try to run the updater with the CheckIntegrity argument i.e psupdater.exe CheckIntegrity

this will check all your installed files and often finds some that need replacing but werent
that argument is case sensitive so use exactly like that
i always run the updater with that now and have only minor problems with PS

psupdater.exe CheckIntegrity

Thanks for the help.

Even when I copy and paste this to the run box, windows cant find the file. I have never been able to get this to work. Even after reading all the post I got from searching the forum.

Any suggestions?

On Windows: Press Start and then Run. Paste "C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Steel Blue\psupdater.exe CheckIntegrity" and press OK. If your PlaneShift is not installed into C:\Program Files\ change the command accordingly.

As far as I know it could be, that you have to change "C:\Program Files" according to the language of your windows installation. In a german windows this would be "C:\Programme".

Another way to do it would be to open up a Windows shell (I think "command prompt" in the windows language ;)). To do this type "cmd" in the run window. Then you get a textbox where your can execute commands. Type a "cd Programm Files", then a "cd PlaneShift Steel Blue" and finally a "psupdater.exe CheckIntegrity" in here. This should do the same as the above. This command prompt is also helpful to see if Planeshift shows any errors if it terminates unexpected. Just use the above cd-commands and then type "psclient.exe" to run the game from the command prompt.

I hope I did everything right here, haven't used windows for some time now ;)
