Poll

What kind of events would your character join?

Events where there is a good deal of fighting (PvP or RP fights or against NPCs).
Events where there is mostly problem solving and not really much need to fight (sort of group quests).
Events where characters need a deep knowledge of magic (RP-wise) to succeed (be it dark or light).
Events where the problems are rather common, from ordinary people. Nothing epic and that 1-5 characters can solve.
Events where the history of Yliakum is changed like the crystal eclipse events, where dozens of players can participate.
Events where criminal/"evil" characters can take the lead.
Events where lawful/"good" characters can take the lead.
Events in episodes that span over several days/weeks (like the riverling event).
Mini events (30-45 minute events).
Other (please specify in a post).

Please keep voting.

@Prolix: Your point is noted. Your idea is different from what we already have and not so easy to implement but we're trying to find a way.

Nobody ever said anything worth doing would be easy but thank you for the acknowledgement. I'm real good at thinking up great and difficult things to do. ;)
Not so much in getting them done... :(

We might not be able to implement all that is said here but it is certainly helping us come up with new concepts that hopefully will make events more accessible and fun for the community.

I find events where everyone doesn't try to be the center of attention fun.

I chose:
Events where the problems are rather common, from ordinary people. Nothing epic and that 1-5 characters can solve.

These are fun because it gives the feel of just one or a few GMs kicking back and having some fun. No real plan or script is needed, just a character's motivation and a bit of a set up.

Events where the history of Yliakum is changed like the crystal eclipse events, where dozens of players can participate.

Well, I obviously like these, since I wrote some of the Eclipse events (the Garden and Dark Crystal dual events, and the Dark Wanderer side events). I like that you can feel like you are making changes to the world. And they are hella fun to write.

Events in episodes that span over several days/weeks (like the riverling event).

These I like the most, but they are the hardest to pull off. In these, you have to get the players to interact with each other, rather than a GM while the GMs are offline or in between 'events'. These are also the most closely related to player roleplay, which are nothing more than 'events' that follow your character as you play and interact with others.

I do like the idea Prolix came up with...

I voted for problem solving - as there are plenty of simple quests already in game that the player can mull over, and if they are in to bashing - there are the NPC monsters etc... but a good thougth provoking event that causes players to 'RP' out their thoughts... then plan and act on them.. that must be good - however - I do think that the GM's should use characters that are not seen as GM's...   The NPC's should not be significantly different in their acts...

That takes me to a concern - when you interact with a NPC it is private? why?  if someone is already speaking with the NPC - surely they should turn to face that player - speak... and be heard by all around -then such events would not seem so 'out of place'.   As a fail safe - if you are 'inactive' for more than 5 seconds with trade/speaking with the NPC, and someone else speaks to that NPC - their focus should move to the new player with a polite 'excuse me please' or similar.  [this could lead into sharing quests with others?]  I know - that is a whole different ball game and should not be in this thread.
