"in a world where everyone strives to be unique, everyone ends up being the same."

And in a world where everyone is the same, everyone strives to be unique. Everything is a tautology at the end of the day.

And thus, people should strive to be just themselves, and not worry about anyone else's looks, mannerisms, etc, for all we truly ever are and ever will be, are, ourselves.  ;)

Which happens to be like everyone else's "ourselves"...  ;D

Which makes our selves strive to be different. And repeat ad nauseum.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

Not really. Mary Sues are cliches and even grinders have a few cliches.
Where does this idea stem from?
Mary Sues aren't cliches. Mary Sue is a character that, by its characteristics, is supposed to be special, better than others, or basically begs to be center of everyone's attention.

This has nothing to do with following the cliches, although there are cliches among the Mary Sue elements (becoming highly skilled at a very young age or having an angsty past are examples). Typically Mary Sue characters are highly attractive and/or very powerful, at the same time lacking any serious flaws (that other players would realise).

Mind you, a character that had its entire village wiped out on their own eyes isn't a Mary Sue unless they reveal this part of their past to other characters/players. I don't see what's so Mary Sue about being evil either (unless you're Duraza-sort of evil ;P ). An eager hero can be as MS as an eager villain.

Also, stating fighting monsters is a cliche among grinders is the same as stating pretending to be someone you're not is a cliche among roleplayers. Neither is an overused phrase/idea/whatever to start with. These actions are what the words represent.

One, you are taking this way to seriously. Two, that defiinition of Mary sue has to be tweeked since this isn't fanfiction. Three, does even an honest to goodness true to the sterotype Mary Sue see themselves as a Sue? Four, just enjoy the test or make another.  ;) Yes, there could stand to be some additions, but in the meantime everyone can have a good laugh. Especially those Sues, who creep by with a 0%. I know you are out there.  :D

Don't be jealous because my characters are the very incarnation of what a mary sue is  :P Besides, with everyone scoring low it makes me feel like if I had a high score my character would in fact be more unique because everyone else is non-marysue. At least unique when grouped with other planeshift characters  ;D (too bad my score wasn't really high for this one....)
Saggi Lezeheso, The Whisper's Jest
Demoik and Rioqura, The Immortal Harrow
Vertum, Will of Dakkru

Duraza Darkom, Slayer of Kittens

I reckon its only people that are remotely concerned that will do the test, let alone post their results.

Bah, I did it for the laughs.

But I do have a tendency to give my characters slightly angsty pasts :P

@Illysia: If you don't wish to receive constructive criticism on "discussion boards", it's always a good idea to state so in the opening post :P

@Duraza: Right, there's nothing wrong with a bit of Mary Sue in roleplaying games. Especially ones that are driven not by a story, but by the characters. The world would be such a dull place, otherwise.
