Data Execution Prevention Error?
« on: August 07, 2008, 05:41:00 am »
My Specs:
Model: HP s3230
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU E4500 2.20 GHz
Graphics Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 2400 [HPvs19]
Memory RAM: 2.00 GB
System Type: 32-bit OS

I downloaded the game and ran the updater. Everything updated successfully.

I was able to log on, create a character, and go through the entire tutorial. When I finished the tutorial and was ready to enter Yliakum, the program attempted to load, but failed with the message:

Something unexpected happened in PlaneShift: Steel Blue
Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 696574E5

I ran the Updater again, but it informed me that there was nothing to update.

My computer then notified me that Data Execution Prevention had stopped the program. Upon inquiry, it informed me that "if DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you".

I have specicially allowed port UDP 7777, and the problem persists.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bubba

UPDATE: After trying several dozen times, I was actually able to log on and had my first "conversation" with one of the programmed characters. Very gratifying after about 6 hours of trying to get this program to work and all. But, that gratification came to an abrupt halt after about 2 minutes of in-world time. The program crashed, and now I keep getting the same error warning as above over and over.

Does the fact that I was actually able to log on mean that my system is configured correctly? Is there a server problem atm? Just tell me if I'm coming across as impatient of something. Out of pure inexperience with PlaneShift, I don't know how patient one needs to be with the server resources and such.  :-[

UPDATE 2: Turing off "Vertex Buffer Object" got me back in the game. Yippee!  :)
