New Updater Error?
« on: August 08, 2008, 08:56:16 pm »
I am having trouble running the Updater. I was successful running it before I first played PlaneShift, and I have played the game for a few very enjoyable in-world days.

Recently I began experiencing problems (mostly of the sort "Received out of bounds positional data, resetting your position" - this happens nearly every time I get near a wall or a vertical hill, making mining very, very tricky business) which cause the game to crash. I have read in several posts that the first thing one should do if experiencing problems is to run the Updater. However, if I try to run the Updater now, I get the following message:

Couldn't get open xml file '/this/updaterinfo.xml' !
Unable to get root mode.

What does this mean? Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Bubba

make sure ps is _not_ installed program files and http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32812.0 that should allow you to run the updater.

It's also possible that the file updaterinfo.xml disappeared for you. To fix this, find the file updaterinfo.xml.bak and make a copy of it. Then rename this copy to updaterinfo.xml and restart the updater program.

Thank you, ThomPheonix! The updaterinfo.xml file had, indeed, simply vanished. Luckily, I had a copy of the correct file on hand (I went through a real drama trying to get the Updater installed in the first place), and only had to copy and paste. The Updater is running right now. And hopefully it will correct the frequent and inexplicable crashes I have been experiencing...

Thanks again!

according to recent changes [done before the updater was released i think] it should use updaterinfo.xml.bak if updaterinfo.xml is missing, but if the updater was not updated [i am not sure] then this fix is not released just yet.

the problem is not that the itself was missing, rather the information inside this file, any ways, i fixed the lack of info, ran the updater, 'no updates needed' and those regions wont load
